3D Game Artist (Generalist)
Farming Simulation Game Connected to Real-World Impact
THE MISSION
Blockponics is developing a stylized farming simulation game in which players select real-world equipment, design and build an indoor farm, grow crops, raise fish, and manage an interconnected agricultural system through a living, scalable, data-driven virtual ecosystem.
What makes Blockponics different is its connection to the physical world. The game is being developed in close design and data alignment with the construction and operation of a high-tech, institutional-grade indoor farm in Indonesia. The IRL roadmap includes strategic sister-sites internationally, and thus future game variants.
Our first playable MVP will bring this world to life through crops with visible growth stages, fish that move naturally through aquatic environments, responsive farm systems, and mechanics inspired by real aquaponic, hydroponic, and sustainable food-production techniques.
We are assembling a small creative team to work directly with leadership including the Managing Game & Creative Director, and Chief Technology Officer. This is an opportunity for an ambitious 3D generalist to take meaningful ownership of game assets—from modeling and texturing through basic rigging, animation, optimization, and engine integration. You will help establish how the Blockponics world looks, moves, grows, and feels.
Blockponics is integrating carefully selected blockchain functionality where it genuinely provides clear utility for players and the broader non-gamer participants. The project is initially aligned with the Solana technology stack and is formally supported by Solana Superteam Indonesia, with the MVP intended for a global audience across traditional gaming and Web3 communities.
ABOUT THE ROLE
Most of your work will involve creating stylized plants, crops, trees, fish, environmental props, farming equipment, and other nature-related assets for the playable MVP.
We are looking for ideally an (or aspiring to be) intermediate artist who can produce clean, optimized, game-ready assets and is interested in developing broader generalist capabilities.
Strong ability in modeling and texturing, combined with rigging, animation, and technical-art skills.
RESPONSIBILITIES
-
Create 3D models of plants, fish, trees, crops, farming equipment, and environmental objects.
-
Create clean UV layouts, textures, and materials.
-
Prepare basic rigs for assets that require animation.
-
Produce simple animations, such as:
-
Fish swimming
-
Plants moving to wind
-
Crop growth stages
-
Harvest interactions
-
Basic environmental movement
-
-
Optimize assets and animation complexity for real-time performance.
-
Prepare and export assets for use in Unity or Unreal Engine.
-
Revise assets based on art direction, technical requirements, and playtesting feedback.
-
Work collaboratively with the game, technical, and creative leadership team.
REQUIREMENTS
-
Early-career to intermediate experience with Blender (priority), Maya, or 3ds Max. Blender is preferred.
-
Able to model, texture, rig, and animate 3D assets.
-
Understand UV mapping and basic PBR texturing.
-
Create clean, organized, game-ready assets.
-
Interest in games, simulation systems, nature, farming, or environmental design.
-
Reliable communication and ability to respond constructively to feedback.
BONUS NICE-TO-HAVE SKILLS
-
Experience with Substance Painter or Photoshop.
-
Experience creating stylized game art.
-
Experience with farming, cozy, management, or simulation games.
-
Experience creating plants, animals, aquatic environments, or natural ecosystems.
-
Experience with Unity or Unreal Engine.
PORTFOLIO
Please include a portfolio or selected examples demonstrating any of the following:
-
3D Plants, crops, or trees
-
3D Fish, animals, or other creatures
-
3D Farming or environmental props
-
3D Stylized environments
-
Textured 3D models
-
Optimized game-ready assets
-
Rigged or animated models
-
Personal projects, game-jam work, student work, or practice projects
Professional studio experience is not required. Strong personal and academic projects are welcome.
ENGAGEMENT STRUCTURE
This is a pre-funding, part-time contributor engagement for the MVP stage rather than a conventional salaried position.
There is currently no base salary. The intended deferred-compensation structure, project participation, milestone expectations, and potential post-funding role will be discussed transparently with shortlisted candidates before any production work begins.
The arrangement is best suited to someone who believes in the Blockponics mission, wants meaningful creative ownership, and is interested in helping establish the artistic foundation of an early-stage game project.
Candidates will not be expected to begin production work without first reviewing and agreeing to the engagement terms.
