When baking a light process raises 92 degrees and runs at 3.5 megahertz in rendering with 3ds max and vray the processor works again at 3.5 MHz but does not raise more than 75 degrees. please help
Unreal light baking is super intense on the Threadrippers. I have the same problem with my 1950 – it throttles a bit when baking lighting, more so than it does when doing other compute heavy tasks. I think there’s just something about the particulars of Lightmass, such as use of SIMD/AVX or something.
Your best bet is to make sure you have a really good interface between the CPU die and the heat pump, and turn up the RPM for the cooler to max before you start baking.
i using Corsair Hydro Series H150i PRO. RPM is max and temperature is 92 degrees,
Мaybe Unreal is not optimized to work with adm processors. Only 64 of the CPU cores are involved in light baking, the other 64 do not work, which is very unfortunate.
I think the cause here is that it IS optimized to use AMD processors. It uses enough of the special SIMD functionality that the cores run warm.
If it wasn’t optimized to use everything from the CPU, then it wouldn’t get as warm, because it wouldn’t be doing as much, and wouldn’t be using as many execution units.
Hopefully they will soon optimize unrealistically for 128 working threads. It is not normal for such good software not to work with the best processors.
