Crash on open a project

Hi guys,
I was told to post my crash here…I think.

I have a scene where I set it to build a light. The next day I saw it crashed and I was unable to open it again. It’s for archviz, so I have several big floor objects and walls that I set to have 4096 size of light map. Maybe that’s the cause?

The thing is that I can’t open any of backup scene files either.

Here’s the log

Hey ,

I noticed that you’re currently working in 4.6.7. Have you tried creating a copy of your project and trying to open it within 4.8 Preview 1? If so, do you receive the same errors? Could you also please provide me the full error in a .txt file?

Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

Hey ,

I have not heard from you in quite a few days. For this reason, I must resolve this thread at this time. However, if you have any further questions regarding this specific issue, please reply back here and we will assist you further.

Thank you and have a great day!

Hi,
I posted an answer but it didn’t appear. So, here’s a log of my crash.[link text][1]

I can’t find where to download 4.8 preview 1. Sorry. Can you give me a link?

42368-australia-backup-2015.05.01-12.32.57.log (12 KB)

Hey ,

The provided cut off at this point:

[2015.05.01-10.32.39:386][145]LogLinker:Warning: Asset '../../../Engine/Content/EngineMeshes/Humanoid.uasset' has been saved with empty engine version. The asset will be

Are all of your empty after that point as well? Is this where it starts to crash? If this is where it crashes at, I would suggest removing the ‘Humanoid.uasset’ from your content folder and see if that fixes the issue that you’re currently running into. Do not delete it, just move it to another folder outside of your project.

If you can find a longer log file for this error, feel free to update this thread with those so we can look further into the errors.

Thank you!

I removed that Humanoid asset and entered the project but now I see it crashes when I want to load my level. It used to load automatically. Here’s a new log.[link text][1]

42544-australia-backup-2015.05.13-17.41.44.log (32.1 KB)

Hey ,

Go ahead and add the Humanoid asset back into your project folder where it originally was. Please try to do “fix up redirectors” in your contents folder. You do this by right clicking within your content browser in the Editor.

Also, have you removed or relocated:

[2015.05.13-15.39.33:765][ 0]LogEditorServer:Warning: Can't find file '../../../../../../Unreal projects/Australia/Content/AustraliaScene.umap'

Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

Yes, I had to remove Australia umap because I can’t enter Unreal since it auto loads that level which crashes it.

I tried to fix redirectors but as soon as I copied my Australia scene back to content and tried to load it it crashed.

But again, it must have something to do with lightmaps since it started on my last light map build. Don’t you think? Maybe 3 or 4 object had 4096 maps, while one or two had 2048 and the rest only small maps. That doesn’t sound too extensive or?

Latest log in case it helps.[link text][1]

Hey ,

Could you please provide the full error that you’re receiving? The you just provided seem to be cut off halfway between a message. We do need the full in order to read thoroughly through them to see what issues are there.

Also, since you’re working with larger lightmaps, could you please provide me with your DXDiag ? You can get these by looking for ‘DXDiag’ in the ‘search programs and files’ section from the start menu. Once the DXDiag log program populates, there will be a save all button which you can use. Just upload those to your next reply as well.

Thanks!

Here is dxdiag

About Unreal …most of them are like 8 or 12 kb, this is the only 33kb one.[link text][2]

Hey ,

Your computer specifications seem to be high enough not to cause issues with lightmaps. If you don’t have enough memory available for your project to open, that will cause it to crash. If your lightmaps are over what available memory you have, this could be why you’re experiencing a crash.

However, looking over the error provided, it seems that the AustraliaScene.umap cannot be found.

LogEditorServer:Warning: Can't find file '../../../../../../Unreal projects/Australia/Content/AustraliaScene.umap'

If you would like to see if I can open your project, I’ll be more than happy to do that for you. You’ll simply need to upload your project somewhere (please include all of the files needed for it). Once you’ve done that, send me a private message on the forums and I can follow the link to download the project.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!

Yeah, I had to remove that scene file because I couldn’t load Unreal, so then I put it back.
I will PM you the link of my project.

Hm, how do I PM you? I wen to your profile but didn’t see that option.

Also, where can I get the latest Unreal engine version? Usually it notifies me in Epic launcher.

Hey ,

You can simply go to the forums and click on Notifications and go into your inbox. From there, send a new message and then type in my name, ’ ’ and it should auto populate for you.

If the Epic Games Launcher doesn’t notify you of the newest version of the engine, you can simply go to Library and it’ll show you all of the versions you have installed. If 4.8.0 Preview 2 is listed, then you have the newest version of the engine. If it’s not, you can simply click in Add Versions and it’ll allow you to install the newest (or an older) version of the engine.

Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

Hey,
did you get my PM?

Hey ,

I have added the Australia scene to my blank project. I have been able to successfully open it within 4.8 Preview 2. Building lighting also worked, as well as playing the game within the editor. I have not received a crash as of yet. Have you added the Australia scene to a blank project on your computer without crashing on opening?

Looking forward to hearing from you, thanks!

I just installed 4.8 preview 3 and it still crashes.

So I tried blank. You mean start a blank project and only put my scene file in it? I did that but then I get all the errors of course that it can’t locate its assets. Should I then point it to that old project folder? If yes, how? Sorry, new with Unreal so not really sure what’s the procedure here.

Hey ,

All of the files and folders that you provided me within the zip I copy and pasted over into a blank template. Once I had done that, I opened the project up in UE4 and the scene loaded for me without any crashes.

Did you attempt to add the files to your project this way? Keep in mind that the copy and pasting was solely done through Windows Explorer (from one folder to the next, not migrated).

When you say that you’ve installed 4.8 preview 3 and you’re still crashing. Is that when you’re launching the project or trying to play? Also, could you provide me the error from the crash for 4.8 preview 3? Did this project include the Australia scene?

Thanks!

This is weird since it still crashes here.

I started UE, created a blank project and named it Australia (the same location so there are no missing files).

Then my first try was to exit UE and then copy all the old files into this new project. When I started UE again it stopped on 94% loading. My system froze, I gave it like 15 mins but nothing.

Then I tried this again, but this time I kept the new project opened, so it figured out “live” when I added new content. Default level was loaded. Then when I wanted to open my level/scene, it crashed again. Here’s the log.[link text][1]

43492-australia.log (116 KB)

Hey ,

Does this project crash every time you open it, or was it only once? If it continues to crash, are you able to provide me that new project you’ve created that has the Australia scene in it, but it’s a blank project? Please make sure to include all of the files so that I can see the same issue that you are seeing.

Looking forward to hearing back from you, thanks!

Yes, every single time.
I will PM you the new zip file.

Thank you.
