2022 Epic MegaJam Theme Announcement!

Hey folks!

We’d like for everyone that created something for the jam can be part of the Epic MegaJam event. Projects added after the deadline are ineligible for prizing, but we’d still love for folks to see your game and include you in the sizzle during the results stream.

If you weren’t able to make it in time, please send a message to community@unrealengine.com with your game’s Itch.io page and we’d be happy to add it to the Epic MegaJam page.

Hey SkyeEden!!
Thanks for this information. What about an issue that we encountered with itch.io ?

We uploaded the game build on time and some participants were able to download it and test it, but the download link disappeared from the page after around four hours from the submission time. What can we do in this case? We still have the original build and we added another drive link

We worked really hard on this jam and we’ll be really dissapointed to be considerated ineligible for prizing due to a technical bug from itch.io. We’ll be happy if you helped us to solve our problem.

Here’s the link to our submission: Rate Symergy by Higum, Valoubard, Kraknistic, ComeD, JeffSC30 for 2022 Epic MegaJam - itch.io

Thank you for considering our issue.

@SkyeEden I personally don’t care about prices. For me, it is sad that our project will not be compared to how it will stand up to the competition. due to a problem with submition

Although I didn’t make submission I feel pretty bad how team/sponsors treats us with unanswered questions and many issues some of us encountered with the jam. I know that if I didn’t make submission then I should just be quiet, but I still want to make a point to try and organize things a lil better. Just how it feels for me.

Hello Friends

I have a question that I don’t expect to get any answer to, so instead I will try to answer it myself.

  • Why do you take part of a game jam (Epic Mega Jam)?

Maybe you do it’s because you love making games. Maybe you do it, because it gives you a reason to make a game. Maybe you just want to win one of the prizes. Maybe you want to learn a new skill. Maybe you wants to meet other people whit the same interest as yourself. Maybe you wants to show you abilities to industry professionals. Or maybe you want to show the world your brilliants.

But maybe this is the wrong question I try to answer, and instead I should answer the question “Why do I take part of game jams?”. So here we go, and hopefully this answer will have less maybes.

I am totally obsessed with making games, and I have been this since I was a small kid. I have made at least 200 games in form of boardgames, videogames, and alternative sports disciplines. Game jams is for me a amazing way to show and share with others what I do make anyway. I would lie, if I said that I didn’t took part of game jams, because I hope to get such a brilliant game idea that it can show the world my brilliants. But it has not happen yet, and it will probably never happen, and this most likely because I am in no way brilliant. I also like to learn new skills, and here is game jams also really good. Personally I don’t care about the prizes, so it is great I have never been near winning.

I have until now forgot to mention what I think is the most important part of game jams. And when I see the Epic Game Jam, I am clearly not the only one that have forgotten it. I can honestly say it also took me some game jams to really understand the real beauty of the game jams. But I would not have taken part of at least 60 of them (near 30 Epic Game jams) if it wasn’t because of it. And surprisingly it has nothing to do with making the games. It has also nothing to do with winning the competition. And it is not even hidden what is missing from this game jam. It is in the name ‘game jam’. Yes, it not the games there is missing. But it is the jam part that is missing.

Jam has here nothing to do with marmalade, even though that kind of jam also can be great. But instead jam here means that it is something we do together. Game jams is not just about ME and MY game, but it is about all of OUR games. It is about playing each others games, give feedback and learning from each others ideas. The best part of this is that we can help other people to become better game developers, and at the same time get inspired to become better game developers ourselves.

I can sadly see there is a lot of games in the Epic Mega Jam there has no comments or at least nearly no comments on them. And I’m sorry but the judges will not change this. They do not have the time to give feedback to all the games. I have said this before, but I still wants a community price, where the jammers judges, and give feedback on each others games. I want this because I like the Epic Mega Jam to become more of a real game jam.

So the real question is maybe more “Are you not interested in making this into a real game jam?”. This is not a question to Epic Games, but more a question to all of us that is taken part of the jam. I personly love playing and talking about all of your games, but why do so many of you have nearly no interest in other peoples games? I might know the answer, but I don’t like to believe it is true.

This was all I had to say about this. And this was by the way not a commercial to make any of you to play my game, because I this time failed to finish making a game. I still hope to upload a version of the game I tried to make, but it will still take a bit more time before it is ready.

Good luck to everyone and remember to play each others games. There are a lot of really good games to play, and remember also to play the games that is not the best.

When do we get scores from the judges?

There was a live stream on the October 27th - this was mentioned on the itch page (though not as explicitly as it could be).

There was also a blog post that went live right afterwards:

Thank you so much for this info, I just thought it was taking a long time to judge because there were so many submissions.
