Agapanthus, also known as the African Lily or Lily of the Nile, is a highly ornamental perennial plant. Its most striking feature is the tall, upright flower stalk that emerges from a base of strap-shaped, green leaves. At the top of this stalk sits a large, spherical umbel composed of dozens of funnel-shaped individual flowers. The blooms are typically an elegant blue or purple, though white varieties are also common. When they bloom in summer, they present a particularly fresh and romantic display.
