10x10km world creation, full of bugs

Hi!

I am trying to create a 10x10km world for cinematic purposes. I have understood that in UE5 you should use world partition for that. Problem is that it seems to be full of bugs and issues.

My main problem is that it can’t be used with Landmass fully, which is quite problematic for this kind of project. With Landmass components in the level, the landscape regions break and you can’t unload and load proxies anymore.

So fine, maybe I’ll just skip the regions even though the plain 10k landscape instantly eats up my 16GB of VRAM on the 4080S I’m on. But then comes the problems with my landscape materials becoming black.

I experienced that particular issue without Landmass aswell, but first it worked and then suddenly the landscape turned black.

Also I have problems with landscape proxies disappearing and not coming back.

I also had problems with static meshes not unloading both with and without Landmass. And now suddenly it worked.

I don’t know, it just feels like world partition is super buggy in UE5.4.

Has anyone here experience in doing a 10x10km+ landscape in Unreal and how did you do?

I found 5.4 to be very buggy and crashes way too often, so I don’t use it.

I don’t believe it is at all necessary to use World Partition for large landscapes, either. I’ve done lots of big landscapes, and I never use World Partition. WP is an alternative to level streaming, but you can use either method, or neither, if it doesn’t make sense for your project.
