I want to add a lot of items into a folder to my project.
I know how to import 1 by 1, but I want to import entire folders.
So I can’t find the directory where my projects are under.
I found the other content for the downloaded examples like couch knights and stuff, but I can’t find my own content to paste folders under.
If that’s a thing?? I’m not sure.
Can I copy paste a folder with stuff and have it show there?
Please help.
You can import multiple files of the same type into a folder at once simply by selecting all the files when you choose to import however I don’t believe you can import folders so the best you can hope for is to simply do the organization on your computer and then create the same folders manually inside the content browser and then import all from each folder.
You’re still going to have to create materials, blueprints etc from scratch in the editor so I think you just have to get used to doing things manually.
I was simply using that as an example of things you need to create manually from scratch after importing your models. For example if you’re trying to make a game, then you create blueprints that use your imported models to create gameplay. Like a weapon model or a flying plane etc.
Short answer is no. There’s no way to import everything. You can check the import textures and import materials options when importing your models from max but its going to place those textures and materials in the same folder as your meshes.
There’s no way to do it automatically. As I said above you can only import objects of the same type. So what I would do is create a “Meshes” folder inside the content browser and then open that folder and right click and choose import then select all of your FBX files and import them. If you want even more organization - for example you have Meshes - Architecture and Meshes - Nature, then you have to create those sub folders and import the appropriate meshes manually.
You can move files around by simply drag and dropping them inside the content browser, however if you do this after the files are being used (for example move a texture once its being referenced by a material) then it will move the file and update the location to its dependents but even if you empty out a folder, I’ve noticed that it still uses the folder as a reference.
That sucks. In the previous versions I remember copy and pasting folders of content on the projects and they would work fine. But I can’t find the folders anymore
