I remember seeing this a little while back, but it looks like Ryan has been working on octahedral impostors. I have no clue if this will ever make it into the engine or not, but it would be amazing if it did.
I’m guessing it’s just one of those things that Epic hasn’t put much into. I bet most people don’t even know the feature exists.
As far as that Unity tool, that’s a third-party addon
I don’t think it is necessary to address this kind of things on an engine level. It is a tool, anyone can make and use, as the project requires, without any advanced resources.
The same could be said about hundreds of other quality of life features within the editor…
It’s definitely in their best interest to put something like this in though. Better performance, with better fidelity and a simpler workflow, is always desired by new and current developers.
