First of all Fab in Epic Launcher runs on embedded browser, which is fine, the problem is it doesn’t run offline, it directly calls online APIs to get its data which is horrible.
If the internet has packet loss (which my satelite internet has) and disconnects for brief moments (which mine does) then everything goes haywire.
- Pages load half way,
- A list that has 7000 items, only show 220
- The entire launcher goes unresponsive when internet disconnects, not even responds to click.
- One an item details loaded half way, it stays like that forever.
- Items that are unlisted have so many issues that clearly shows they were added as an after thought
- It always starts from FAB homepage instead of my library.
- It doesn’t have a cache of my items in library to be usable immediately
- I cannot filter content of my library by style, format, tag, developer or just plain title, just like I could do with market place library. Quixel items are in every category and I cannot filter them out when I’m looking for some asset that is not quixel!
- download progress keep failing and getting stuck on some random number even though the items are being downloaded, the download list is not being updated. I can see them being downloaded in the vault folder even though progress is still stuck at half of an item downloaded and completed 6 items ago.
And there is no way of recovering from it like browser (pressing refresh) or Ctrl-F5 to reload the page.
There are no paging and epic developers stubbornly refuse to add them, which them makes it impossible to load rest of the list. you have to quit the launcher and open it again.
This following is an unlisted item, It doesn’t show picture of item, I don’t even remember what it is and your guess is as good as mine, I have 83 of them in my library.
This one specifically only has one FBX file in it and there is no dropdown to select the format, so pressing the either of buttons (export or download) will disable the buttons and show select format, tell me how?
Unreal assets do no have download only, why? maybe I just want to keep them in cache and using them in a project for now. Why I have to create a project, add them to the project and then delete the project so I have it in my vault?
I’m sorry to say, but it doesn’t seem the Fab is still ready, as I find myself troubleshooting the problems more hours than the time I’m spending on actually making something with Unreal.
I’m a programmer, It pains me to see this thing is broken for so long and is not being fixed. Either Hire me for 4K a month with no benefit, and I’ll do it for you as remote developer, or create an API server inside the Epic Launcher which then it is responsible for fetching user data and keeping it locally and the Fab tab should connect to that service instead of direct online. Also for got sake don’t put those cache in drive C. I have configured Vault in drive F which has 68TB empty space, why would you put your cache in drive C that only has 4GB empty?
This is clearly is not updating to environment from Characters and creatures!
