Automatic flow map material for water

Just got this working. It my automatic flow material using distance fields. No external application vector maps required!

Ahh, I managed to find some stuff on this. Idk why I havent heard of this setup until now.

Yeah distance fields are great for this kind of thing.

I looks really cool actually because you see the texture approach the rocks and then wrap around it as it goes downstream. I’ll record a video of it tonight and upload. Now I need to find a nice way to make it look realistic. If anyone knows any good tutorials then post them my way!

I’ve also been wanting to do a water material… I hope someone will make a tutorial on this? Otherwise i’ll have to start investigate this and do one myself, including a tutorial…

Any update on this guys. Very interesting stuff. Sadly the link is dead also.

He probably used distance fields to define where the water is obstructed. I’ts kind of pushing the texture on the UV.
