Why is the glass in the windows missing when I import a C4D file from Vectorworks?

I've got Twinmotion 2021.1.4, and I'm using the bog-standard old export as C4D from Vectorworks on a Mac, transfer to PC, import as C4D to twinmotion, and this has worked perfectly well in the past (albeit losing all the textures and colours in the transfer), but now all the glass has vanished from a multi-storey building. It seems to still be present in the layers/scene box, as "Extrude WD Glass" with a little folder next to it, but clicking on it doesn't highlight anything, and the eyedropper tool doesn't recognise the glass at all. Only the frames.

There's always been missing files when I import a C4D from Vectorworks, but they're usually pot plants, or colours, not vast sections of glass! I believe these lost textures reside in a folder called "Extracted Textures", but this folder is empty.

Er...help?

Cheers!

Hello ,

Thank you for posting in the community, about your issue. Maybe you can try and find the material in the multi-view and edit all glass material to be 2-sided until you can see the glass show up. Reference video on where to access this menu: https://youtu.be/c-p-yojlNKs

If that does not work please contact us so we can further investigate:

If you have one of the current Vectorworks 2022 version I recommend you try the udatasmith format and the latest Twinmotion 2022.2 Preview 1 to see if that works better.

Kind regards,

Hello Vincent,

I tried the 2-sided business, but nothing appears. I exported the Vectorworks file as an FBX this time, and still the glass is listed as a missing file, regardless of whether I choose "use Imported material" or "scene material". It's just not there! In VW the windows we used are standard VW window/door inserts, with glass pre-fitted. The ones we've always used. Very odd! Yes, I've started a "case" for further help, as the whole building is made of glass, essentially, so it's obviously rather important the glass is there.

Cheers though!

I am having the exact same issue, I have been using TM and VW for years with no problems, then recently the same thing is happening, identical to original issue posted above.

Any solutions????

Hello ,

After looking further into Vectorworks and how certain files are setup it is important to double check the classes visibility in file and your viewport from the crop elements if you have any as it might affect how the export works. Creating a dedicated view for the Twinmotion exports might help avoid running into issues as well. Hope this helps for others that might come across this as well.

Thank you very much, this is a very silly error of mine whereby I had the glazing class on within the layers/objects but not for the viewport.

Thank you very much
