Unreal Engine deletes foliage - help

I finally found a solution to this problem and hope it can assist others facing similar issues.

Same issue here. Not related to the editor startup map or whatever the previous user was experiencing. I loaded up my world partition map which already had plenty of foliage painted on. Then I selected a specific grass type and continued painting. As I was painting I got GPU crash to desktop. When I loaded up the map, all foliage of the type I was painting was removed, and interestingly that foliage type was actually also removed from the options in the foliage selection menu. I was able to re-add it fine, so there wasn’t any underlying issue with the foliage mesh, but now I have to start over and paint the grass again which isn’t a quick process.

I guess if there is a ā€œsolutionā€ here it’s to submit your level to source control every time you finish foliage painting. That way you at least don’t lose your entire progress if you get some bad engine crash while using the foliage tool that deletes all your foliage.
