Hey peeps,
I am having an issue in regards to alembic files that I import into UE5 as geometry caches. Basically I have a alembic file exported from Houdini which I import into UE5 as a geometry cache due to the animation data it contains. It imports in fine, no erros / warnings but whenever I apply any material to it regardless of how basic the material is, I get a very weird griding issue.
If you look at the preview image I’ve added, you can see the material looks different between these 2 planes. The plane on the left is the geometry cache asset which has the animation data in it and the plane on the right is just a standard plane from UE5’s actor library.
I spent all daytrying to debug this and got nowhere with it. I’ve also posted it in the materials section in the Unreal Slackers discord group with no response. There is also little support regarding alembic files / geometry caches on Unreals documentation website.
Is there anyone here who has had this issue and fixed it or anyone that has any idea as to why it is doing this as I do need to resolve this as soon as possible.
