One question, you state to make sure " your object is sitting on something with many trackable features which can be found in both datasets" Then just a sentence later it states “I have also used some markers here but they are not necessary”. THey’re not necessary because there already were trackable features?.. that wasn’t clear…
The medical device I’m scanning is large… so I should probably put markers on the floor where they will be in view when taking the pics…

Yes, that is right. The control points weren’t necessary because of the features.
When I utilize this method, my texture is solid monotone black. what is wrong here? have tried and retried numerous times so I know I am reproducing the steps to a T. in the same project, if I rebuild model and texture with sprayed model only, then its perfect.

This is quite strange. What kind of images are you using for texturing? Can you share your texture settings? Is it possible that all of your images are disabled for texturing? Can you share some print screens of your project?
