Are you recapturing sky via BP? Also you can scare skylight at night as well.
Hello Shoiko
but i don’t know how i can do that “scare Skylight at night as well”?
Kind regards,
Andreas
I meant scale. Apply a parameter curve for sky intensity and interpolate it for night and day.
I finally got a time of day system in my upcoming explorer-simulator. Thanks! ![]()
Another ideas for you, Greg.
-Moving Moon (opposite to sun)
-Change size of sun on fly (its bigger upon sunset/sunrise) and more orange.
is already very good, lets try to make it great.
Any you’re going to update your wiki entry to include instructions on how to add a moon. Cause right now Night time is pitch black.
Hey guys, great stuff!
I have one question… I just tried it, and noticed that even at like 10-12 PM, due to that white-ish fog being there, scene looks really bright, apart from dark sky… Is there an easy way to prevent that from happening?
Sorry if that’s already been discussed somewhere in thread, I didn’t read it all…
Hi there. I’ve been fooling with for about 9 hours now and I cannot manage to make it function properly.
I am stuck on “5. In BP_Skydome_DayNight’s properties, under “Sun” category, set “Directional Light Actor” to be directional light in your level. (Just click on property, a menu should pop up. Select thing called “Directional” something.)” portion. When I click on Directiona Light Actor there is nothing for me to set and I am not able to drag my Directional Light into BP. Also, at bottom of section “Default Value” section is locked.
Extremely frustrated with at moment and I am sure I am overlooking something extremely simple. Any help is appreciated.
Hi there, I have created an advanced version of tutorial so options might look slightly different, but what he means by #5 is once you have your skydome placed in your level, go to Scene Outliner and select skydome, now down in details panel you need to set DirectionalLightActor that is currently placed in your level, use drop-down menu to show all of lights available and choose your sun’s directional light, similar to (note I named it differently, same idea though):
is from within your level, not within actual skydome blueprint. Hope that helps, let me know if you need any more info! ![]()
Wow! Thank you so much, that was problem exactly. I feel dumb now, haha.
Hey guys, I’m back! I finally have time to work on again, and I’m going to release a new version weekend.
I fixed that super annoying white glow at night (yay!) and made stars rotate around earth at an adjustable speed ( is a bit buggy still). Is there anything that you want me to put in next release (provided it’s doable)?
Also, what’s a good free file hosting service? Is there anything that lets me link directly to file, instead of going through host’s site?
Finally, I really want to add cloud adjustments (overcast, clear, etc.) but I can’t figure it out. If someone with more artistic talent could help me out, that would be great
UppercutAJ, how did it go for you?
EDIT: looking through thread again, I just wanted to answer some of posts:
@KlausBecker, moon moves now! Download 1.2. As for changing size of sun on fly, that seems kinda unrealistic.
@TorQueMoD, I don’t plan to add all to wiki, as it would be really complicated. wiki tutorial was meant to be more of a quick-and-dirty way to admire LPV GI rather than a full-blown TOD system.
Hey Greg!
First of all thank you for sharing all of , it helped me create a similar system based off of yours with some added features, I am currently working on some more for it but in my signature below I have a project containing some of changes, if you like any of them feel free to add them into project! Still a ways to go, but I added a moon that rotates, added settings to adjust sun & moon rise/fall horizon position, added a second mesh closer in that handles clouds, with main sphere handling sun, atmosphere, stars etc. Added in a lightning spawning system with some configurable settings, fog settings, and am currently working on particle based clouds and rain.
Download it and have a look, I would love to contribute anything I can! ![]()
Right now I use & Google Drive to host, I was using Dropbox but they took my public links down due to too much traffic, but other 2 have not had any issues.
has lots of space
Nice ! Downloading now. Sounds like you’re a bit ahead of me ![]()
problem with (and all free hosting I’ve tried so far) is that they make user go to their site instead of just clicking on link to start DL right away. I guess that’s price you pay for “free” though. Oh well.
EDIT: Holy cow man you are a genius. Why didn’t I think to make moon a separate object :D. Also that night sky is sweet.
Hey ,
Sorry I haven’t been back on forums for a while. We have finally released some footage of Submerged that used your Skydome setup as a starting point, you can check it out on IGN here! http://au.ign.com/videos/2014/11/30/submerged-gameplay-demo
Whats easiest way to package up our version for others to download? Just save all assets into a folder and it? Or is there some more clever way to extract all bits? We have multiple curves and things blueprint needs to reference.
AJ
AJ, best way would be to copy systems in question into a basic project (using editor’s built-in capability to migrate assets between projects, which I’m sure you’re familiar with) and then and distribute that. That way we can copy it out of said project and into our own project easily. I know of no other way to distribute assets with their relative linkages intact.
Hey AJ your game looks awesome but I have to say that climb up animation is balls. Donkey balls in fact. Why does she do a headstand every time she climbs onto a ledge? It looks awful and mars an otherwise gorgeous looking game!
Hey guys,
Is project still alive? Is there anywhere we can download latest version?
I would love to contribute to project. I have mainly artistic skills, not so much in coding part ![]()
But I would love to help make system more beautiful with different cloudscapes, weather types, stars etc… by creating new materials for sky.
project kind of died because I got really busy with school and work, but now that summer is coming up I’ll try to work on it. My lack of material and art knowledge was a bit of an obstacle, but I’ll try to get what I already had polished up for latest version.
Hi there,
1st of all great achievement here. Thank you very much.
I am working on some stuff and I would like to use Blueprint.
What I am currently aiming for is to change Day of time via a button or menu. However I have not been really successfull yet :(. As I am a total noob when it comes to Unreal I have been digging through tutorials. So basically I want to change DefaultHour Value in BP_DayCycle_SkyDome ( I think). So I referenced BP_DayCycle_SkyDome in LevelBlueprint and cast thing to Player.
In my Player Blueprint I created a public Variable of type “BP DayCycle Sky Dome” and called it “TargetBlueprint” (see I’m trying to follow tutorial ;)). I then created an inputaction which shall change default value ( I think here is problem…) and specified instance in my Player BP.

However when I press InputAction nothing happens. And I am also not sure how to debug properly.
Again I am a noob but any help would be very appreciated.
Thx
