Here the recommended specs for Macs are Quad-core 2,5 GHz or faster, 8 GB RAM and OpenGL 4.1 compatible graphics card. You don’t need a 980 or 980Ti, of course it is always nice to have as much GPU power as possible. You can get pretty decent framerates with the 970, that I can confirm from first-hand experience, although I will upgrade my GPU soon, to get that extra bit of juice.

RAM requirements can be heavy, even 64 GB RAM can be required for some things, like loading many and large assets all at once, see Kite demo for this. But usually it is not required, it’s all about workflow. On one of my desktop PCs I currently only have 16GB RAM and I have been getting a long fine.

Bottom line, you will be able to use your setup until you upgrade to a more powerful desktop setup. Generally laptops are not recommended.
