I’ve been messing with voxels and procedurally generated mesh and achieved some results but spending so much time on it seeing this feature out of the box would be awesome.

Thanks for keeping an eye on this, do you know if there has been any internal discussions about this? Ever since I first got UE4 this has been one of the features I’ve missed the most, while the current tools provided to us are good and all - not being able to edit the terrain at realtime is a rather big obstacle for a lot of games.
Take RTS games for example, some may require you to flatten the terrain when starting to build something. Or survival sandbox games like Rust or Life is Feudal. There’s so many things you can do with editing the terrain in realtime, it’s awesome. Hopefully it won’t need too much refactoring to implement this. :rolleyes:
I think the simple case for terrain editing is when you wanna a terrain destructed in real time… bombs explode here and there! This should be easy (comparatively speaking of course!) It is easy since there features are already there in Editor, but not in the game (the classes/functions are not linked into the game).
But the longer version would be something along ‘Epic will build voxel terrain which will be offered in addition to the conventional heightmap terrain blah blah blah’…
In some ways yes there has been progress. Overall, we’ve been working through the various older tools and fixing them up to be more modern. If you saw at GDC, the BSP system’s replacement is available for early preview, which is kind of a first step to fully flushing out these larger toolsets.
Long story short, we’re working closer to addressing this system and each step in similar areas draws us closer.
EDIT: no eta on anything yet, but keep an eye out on the release notes in future builds for updates
+1 for me too. This feature is very interesting.
I’m surprised this isn’t already a feature. Games were allowing users map editing abilities decades ago. +1 for in-game terrain editing!

But that seemed to happen already 2013. So i dont know how many % they own know, if any.
Add me to the list of people who’d like the terrain to be editable in real time. Like just feeding a new heightmap would do.

I’ve been keeping the devs aware of the community interest here. No word on the priority of this one, so I would assume mostly they are focusing on other features right now.
