Hi, I noticed the message saying that islands using the Squid Game templates can be published starting August 14th and may be featured in a special Discover section.
Just to clarify, how can an island be considered for featuring if publishing isn’t available yet? Is there a way to submit or preview it in advance, or will the system automatically review once publishing opens?
Thanks for the help!
Hi Tiger,
I think it’s alluding to a ‘Squidgames experiences’ row/section in discover. (That will be created/populated after Aug 14)
It could take the form of what we’re seeing with TWDU/TMNT etc where there is a specific section for those maps. - If you create a map using the IP template you’ll automatically be eligible for placement in those sections.
But how can we be featured now already?
Ah, because you’ve already seen “Squid Games” stuff on discover right?
I think that was a situation where people were able to blatantly infringe on IP because the IP holder decided not to take any action against them. (It was probably the popularity of those maps that sparked discussions to bring this IP into UE)
I know that since there will be an official collaboration, those maps have been getting removed.
I did notice “Octo Game” on the top charts the other day. This could make an interesting case study on the line between creating something inspired by something else and IP infringement.
