So I have a spotlight attached to my character and it looks great but when I get close to a model it makes it glow really bright, is there a way to dim this down? I dont really want to mess with light intensity as I have it perfect currently.
Have you built the lighting? That could be a possible issue if you haven’t
Yes I have
Do the materials have a high specular node or reflective?
not really sure where I would check this
Hi KT5AMT,
This seems like eye adaptation and/or boom issue.
As a test, in the viewports top right go to the option for show > Post Processing > and disable Bloom and Eye Adaptation.
If this solves your issue you can reset the these back to the way they were and then add a Post Process Volume to your scene that is “unbound” (option in the details panel) and set the Bloom to the level you would like and set the Auto-Exposure (Eye Adaptation) min and max values to 1.0.
You can always adjust these to whatever you like, but this will make it so that it’s not affecting your scene by getting brighter or darker in the scene.
Let me know if this works for you. If you’re still having issues please post a screen shot. Sometimes this can be more helpful.

Doing what you posted didnt fix my issue. Still not sure what the issue is
You need to disable Bloom (use a value of 0) in your post process volume.
Here is an example using FPS template and a simple cube with the flashlight attached to the gun of the player character.
you mension turning it to 0, do you mean untick or is there an option to change the number somewhere? Using 4.7 unreal
Oh my gosh, I am so silly, I was looking in the wrong bit, many thanks its all fixed!
No worries. I’ve done this and continue to do this myself on occasion.
This is why we have this on our wall
Edit: Sorry for the email spam on this one.
With Post Processes it’s important to remember that there are a number of default settings setup. When using the Post Process if the box is not enabled and a value set the editor will use the default setting.
