While using UE 4.8, whenever I try to use the special character ç, the engine crashes. I was ok with that given it’s supposedly not a common character to be used when programming.
However, just now I tried to use the ’ character when commenting on a BP, on my Mac whenever I press ’ it kinda gives an option to auto complete something, for example if I want to write “It’s” I should press:
(Shift + i) → t → ’ → s
And when I want to write the special character ç, I should write:
’ → c
And so on for some other things…
I’m currently using Yosemite 10.10.3 and UE 4.8
I’m also attaching the error log
Edit: I’m using the U.S. International - PC keyboard type, I’ll be adding that to the initial report.
Hey Andrew!
So, instead of using a blank a project I tried with one of the unreal sample projects(sorry I’m running out of space here =P).
I tried using the Unreal’s Blueprints project.
To make it happen I simply went to the blueprint editor, and in one of the comments, I tried to write ç, and once I typed ', the engine crashed.
On a side note: I’m using the U.S. International - PC keyboard type, I’ll be adding that to the initial report.
And thanks for the response! =D
Hey MiguelDoherty,
I attempted to recreate the crash on my end on a Mac here and have been unsuccessful thus far. Would you mind testing this in a new blank project to see if the crash still occurs?
If it does still occur please give me some simple steps to reproduce the issue on my end.
Thanks,
Even within the Blueprint Project I was not able to get the crash to occur on my end.
Which blueprint are you going into and typing this character to get the crash?
Thank you,
I went into the BP_Butterfly blueprint, I tried to change the Landing sequence comment and the crash occurred.
Btw, here’s the error log for this specific crash(the previous one was for my own project).
Hey Miguel,
I tried again within the Blueprint you mentioned and still could not get the crash to appear on my end. Are you using a different native language for you Mac? Spanish, French, Chinese…etc? I ask because you mention the keyboard type which is usually never changed unless the user speaks a different language.
Also, are you using an external keyboard?
Could you also provide me with your system specifications so I can add this to the bug report?
Thank you,
Hmmm, that might be the issue…
My mac was bought in Bangkok, Thailand, I can’t recall what was it’s basic type though, but I’m pretty sure it had Thai as one of the possible languages.
And no, I’m using the macbook pro keyboard.
And here goes the specifications(can’t believe I forgot about it, so sorry about that).

Hey Miguel,
Would you mind taking a look at your ‘System Preferences’ and navigating to the ‘Keyboard’, and then take a look at your ‘Input Sources’ to verify you are using the US standard keyboard?
Thanks,
Hey Andrew,
sorry I took so long to answer =(
Actually, I’m using the “U.S. International - PC” keyboard type.
Thanks!
Miguel Doherty
Hey Miguel,
No worries about the response time. I am going to need to you reproduce this in an empty, new, blank project so I can verify this bug occurs without any outside influence from other assets.
Before doing this, I would uninstall your current version of 4.8, and do a clean re-install with 4.8.1. to verify this crash is valid and still occurs. If you still do get the crash, please provide me with your crash log as a .txt file zipped into a folder and attached here.
Thank you,
