Source code too long

When the heads of EPIC have the meeting to restructure the Unreal Engne engine, in the not too near future (I have a very confidential source), they will realize those who said “everything is fine”, “it is normal” “everything is correct” . When the time comes, whoever said that, they are going to eat it with potatoes.
The time is coming.

No, they are not going to ask me for explanations for anything. They’re not going to tell me anything, don’t worry. I’m a random. But the employees who said that are not going to be amused.

This reminds me a bit of Blizzard.
Their motto “they will not move us from here”
My motto, “time erases all traces”
Only one of the two prophecies was fulfilled. Do you know which one?

A simple calculation on motor size:
2023 = ~160GB
2024 = ~212 GB (although in my case it is 350 GB and there are those who reach 400 GB, as we have seen in this post) But I am going to be gentle doing the operations.

Annual growth = ((212 - 160)/160)*100 = 32.5% growth from last year. Nothing bad.

If we apply “this small percentage” (since it is much more)
Size in 2025 = 212 * (1+(32.5/100)) = 280.8 GB.

I think it’s a good time to ask for a tip.

Since I see this going down the Bikeshedding route (buy a house as big as a football field, buy a cell phone as big as a backpack) instead of addressing real problems, I guess it’s a bit like what happened with a Microsoft dev in charge of adding Rust code to Linux who left.
Why did he leave? Old school versus new school. That’s the discussion. The same thing that happened here. Anyway, let’s hope this doesn’t take much longer, as from what I know, it’s coming but slowly. Fighting against a fifty-something with his ■■■ glued to the chair “saying this is better for EPIC” is frustrating, as they will throw out all kinds of nonsense to ridicule you. I can’t imagine the younger ones who practically don’t say anything so they don’t get looked at badly.

When you do the soft math for the “skeptics = those who really don’t know where the wind is blowing” you always come up short.

Here’s a quote from the reddit post about the video: https://youtu.be/WiPp9YEBV0Q?t=1529

  • You’re not going to force us all to learn Rust, if I make a change I’ll fix all the C code, because it’s my responsibility, since I don’t know Rust.

  • “[T]o reiterate, no one is trying [to] force anyone else to learn Rust nor prevent refactorings of C code.”

I think Epic would have to rethink a lot of things about those who have been around for a few years. In the field of computer engineering you either retrain or you die.

No, ladies and gentlemen, it’s not about finishing college and sticking to one programming language or staying in a particular field and practicing the law of least effort and retiring there. This is the jungle: either you retrain or we’ll eat you.

I’m leaving this post, since I don’t really care what is said against it, after all, the rotation of Epic and Google people doesn’t vary much, today I talk to A and the next day to B.… I hope someone can find the best solution. If not, we’ll have to look at a 5TB drive.

Someone with no sense in the future: “Why the hell don’t you buy a 10TB drive for UE? Are you trolling?”
