There is still a ton of work that needs doing. But this is my solo project I am making in unreal 4.27. I am calling it Outback Survival.
Here are my socials for anyone that would like to follow the project in other places.

Greetings @Slimwaffle !
Thank you for sharing your solo dev journey with us for Outback Survival! Just the thought of the wildlife of Australia itself is nightmare fuel. LOL! But if you grew up there, I guess it’s all a normal part of life.
Even though you’ve got a ton of work left to do, I’d say you’re off to a great start! What would a finished Outback Survival look like? What elements would you like to implement in your game? What can you tell us about the main character/player?
@Get_DOVAH_it Thank you for the kind words. Yeah, I picked Australia / home as the location because it can be a bit scary if you aren’t used to it. I especially liked the idea of snakes and having to watch where you walk as a player.
My vision for this game is a little different. I take a lot of inspiration from the fallout games. However instead of nukes, it is the Rapture. The biblical end of the world. Instead of being in the distant future, the timeline is closer to our own.
Unlike most other post-apocalyptic games that occur after the world ends. This will occur as the world is ending. I want players to witness the events that cause the end of the world.
As for the main character, you will play as a group of characters. The idea is that each character can die a permanent death and you can recruit more characters to your group as you progress.
So, for the features already implemented.
I have the core survival mechanics added. Things like gathering, base building and item crafting.
I added a customisable GUI like fallout.
I added full game pad support. Customisable key binds for mouse and keyboard as well as gamepads.
I added in the systems for multiple characters. Swapping between characters permanent deaths etc.
Levelling up and skill systems.
I added localisation for 15 different languages.
I used an actual heightmap of Australia. Roads and rivers are in the correct locations.
It is a big map (125km2). But right now, only the bottom half of Tasmania is playable (All around Hobart).
It is a ton of work. I have mostly just been working on the technical stuff and the basics. But I still want to add tons of stuff like; vehicles, quests, cinematics, and a lot more areas to explore.
Your game concept sounds very ambitious and impressive! Is the name of your game “Outback Survival”? Additionally, will your game be a solo adventure, or will it also offer a multiplayer option for playing with friends?
@Zezkaii Thanks mate. I agree it is very ambitious.
I picked something that I felt would give me room to grow and learn as a developer.
I have had the name for a while now. It might eventually change. But for now it is a good name
I am designing it to be a single player game with npc companions.
I understand and agree with you completely! “Outback Survival” is an excellent name for your creation, and I think it’s a fantastic decision to make it a single-player game with NPC companions. I’m eager to see how your project develops, and thank you for choosing to share your journey with us on the forums!
Ooo, I’m really digging the dark purple!
Can we change the reticle’s color to a different color than we choose for the interface, or will it all be the same?
Gotta agree with Zezkaii here, the dark purple looks sick. Very neon-cyberpunk-esque. Great work so far
The plan is to eventually have the whole UI be one colour that changes.
Ah, okay, I see! It’ll all be one intricate design to which we can make meticulous changes. That’s awesome; thanks for the update!
