The whole thing is embedded in a lot of script and not commented well Can’t really extract and present it clearly.
The effect is timeline driven:

DistanceFade
must account for the length of the spline -
FadeSource
is the world location of the actor
These 2 params work together and dictate how much opacity is applied to the material of each spline mesh.
