For your set up replace “player ref” with “player score ref”. Then pull out the score variable from there. You need 2 “score variables” if you want to keep track of a cumulative score FYI. So your pin BP has a “point value” but your score board widget would need to have a “total score” variable. Then on overlap you get that total score out of the widget ref and add the pin BP point value to it then you set the total score variable to the new value and finally update the score board text component.
A Total Score variable in my score board widget like so? It still won’t let me create and connect nodes as you describe after doing so.
It’s ALL working now, thank you so so very much. I know I’ve been killing you with this…
I just couldn’t wrap my head around which nodes to drag from to create the next node, if you get what I mean. And I think I also incorrectly set up my Pin BP, because with the nodes correctly in place it would fail to cast at first and not get the point values from them. Your pin has DefaultSceneRoot > PinMesh, whereas my original one was simply StaticMeshComponent (Inherited). Could that have prevented the Cast from working correctly?
And earlier I also overlooked the EventGraph button for my PlayerScore_BP so I wasn’t adding the Total Score variable correctly I think. It was right in your idiot proof images this time around, so I finally got it.
I’m less of an idiot now thanks to you… :')
I’m glad it’s finally working haha I wasn’t sure after detailed explanations, a video tutorial, more explanations, screen shots and some more explaining what else I could do. So I just figured I would recreate 95% of your entire set up and change my names of levels and variables to match yours so there would be no confusion. I still wasn’t sure it would work since it was only 95% like yours (but I tried to point out the 5% difference in the “idiot proof screen shots” as you call them to my set up) so good thing it did otherwise I was probably going to give up and hope someone else could explain it better. That or I’d actually have to create your exact level set up trigger box and all… not sure I was ready to do that though ha
By the way, the graphics on your level look amazing… So when I need help with art I’ll come find you, I expect idiot proof drawing lessons haha
Yeah, sorry about all the confusion and dragging this one out. I promise it wasn’t on purpose, I’m just an idiot when it comes to blueprints.
I’ll be happy to help with any graphics stuff!
Haha it’s all good, just giving you a hard time. We all have strengths and weaknesses. Hopefully you’re getting the hang of blueprints now. We got into the heart of a lot of things here. I wanna see this game when it’s done. I’d play it
