Retargeting animation causes crash every time

not changing the fingers worked for me. rotating the hand can be used to modify the fingers positioning a little bit. surprised it worked so well

I solved this problem by reverting the “Bone Draw Size” under “Post Edit Settings” on the Details Panel of the Retargeter to its original value. I tried to Edit the Pose to closely match my source mesh especially in the finger area and the rotators are too big so I reduced their size, needless to say that was the cause of the crash.

Sorry but I don’t think this explanation makes any sense, “Bone draw size” is here for the sake of visualization only.

not changing the fingers worked for me.

don’t work with the finger at all and it will export them!

I found a workaround by NOT touching the fingers

Any better workaround anyone? Of course not reposing the fingers allows avoiding the crash, but the results are often not satisfying. I tried to look at UE bug tracker, I could not see any corresponding entry but I may have overlooked something. In any case I hope this is fixed once and for all. I think the pose management in UE5.0.2 in IK Retargeter is lacking many features and is still quite unstable.

Same here. Crashes when trying to save a retarget. It crashes after (apparently) successfully creating a retarget result (but before an opportunity is given to save it) in the IKRetargeter when i press the save button. It crashes when using the Retarget Animation Assets Menu.
None of the options suggested above help.
My error is:
Assertion failed: (Index >= 0) & (Index < ArrayNum) [File:D:\build++UE5\Sync\Engine\Source\Runtime\Core\Public\Containers\Array.h] [Line: 691] Array index out of bounds: 161 from an array of size 161

Same here. I cannot do a lot of edits to the bones and I cannot touch the fingers. I hope this bug gets fixed soon.

Same error, on UE 5.0.2, tried it UE5 mannequin original animations(IE: walk) and it worked, nothing else will though.

UE 5.0.3 has fixed my crashes.

The same problem, it crashes every time when I try to retarget animations. UE 5.0.3
It is not crashing if I don’t touch fingers, it creates animations, but it freezes when I try to save them.

I found a work around if anyone is interested.
I found that if I move the hands to the desired position before moving any other bones, I can then move the rest of the body into the desired target pose and retarget without crashing.
DON’T touch the hands after the initial movement! this will cause it to crash when retargeting!

Is there a solution to this yet? I am on 5.0.3 and it keeps crashing. It works if I don’t mess with the hands but I need to move the hands.

I’ll add my voice to the pile. Mixamo animations to Metahuman. Everything seems to work ok until I get to the part where I export animations. I have not tried to start over and not touch the fingers. I will try tomorrow and see if that makes it more stable. UE 5.0.3

Same crash in here. Can´t solve this.

Issue fixed in 5.1 for me, the retargeting system has been reworked a bit

Thanks. trying to sort this crash for many hours… this worked!!! Not sure why.
version 5.03
edited fingers first, then elbows then shoulders and legs.

export without crash

This solution fixed my crash while retargetting.
My crash was Assertion failed: Atom1.IsRotationNormalized()…

While reverting the bone size does sound absurd it actually did fix the problem for me.

My skeleton not have any virtual bones and stil crash UE.

For my problem not fix. Bone size not influence on crashing.

I create new retargeter in not deep directorey. Not change any settings, only bone size and UE not crash, then exporting animation.

Same prob, FOUND A FIX - first retarget your desired anims to another normal UE4 skeleton, like any one that you’ve already used for retargeting. Then, retarget to your desired skeleton from that one. ie., i was crashing with Sword and Shield AnimsetPro going to my mixamo char. So, i retargeted the Sword and Shields to a Mage Anim pack skeleton I had already successfully retargeted from. I put those anims in a temp folder, and then I went back to my (already setup and working) mage IK Retargter and simply exported the anims I wanted - no crashes, no distortions. GL y’all!

Nothing works - have to install UE4 just to retarget properly.
