Repeating/tiling mesh objects

total newb here. After much time on google I seem to be at a dead end with this.

I have downloaded a mesh object and placed it. It is a segment of a highway. When added to my scene it automatically was repeated twice, so there appear to be three separate instances, though they all show as a single instance in the left info column. And each instance is offset on the y axis, i assume to illustrate the repeating nature of it.

Anyway, the problem is: I can not see where that repeating function is set, as I do need to change the y axis component of it (so that the highway is flat and not climbing up like a huge set of stairs), not to mention increase the repeat number so that my highway stretches out toward the horizon.

Apparently there is supposed to be a “pattern” button under “create” in the modelling mode, but I do not see it there, though I am on 5.4.4. It seems what I want to do is already done somewhere under the hood, I Just need to access it, but no amount of hunting through parameters seems to help.

Thanks for reading, any help is much appreciated.

Perhaps a more focused question would be: how do you “tile” a mesh actor, like a segment of a road, so that it auto repeats itself along the x axis for n number of times?

As I said, there is supposed to be a “pattern” button under “create” in the modelling mode, but I do not see it there, though I am on 5.4.4. Maybe I need to load a particular plugin to see that?

thanks!

Or… could anyone possibly confirm the existence of a “pattern” button in the “create” section of the modelling mode? I’m on 5.4.4. The manual shows it as being there, but this is what i see under create-

The Pattern Button you’re looking for is in X form, I’ve never used this personally so I don’t know what it does.

Yes! Good work, you found it! I wish I could report that it solved my problem. Alas. In all the tutorial videos, the person clicks on the pattern button, and instantly there are n copies of the object in space, and they go on to adjust the number, the extant, etc. For me, nothing. I create a new level, create a cube. Click modelling, xform, pattern. Nothing happens, even though the count is 16. the extant is 3, just like the videos. But nothing happens, and no amount of tweaking makes the 15 other objects appear. sigh.

I wouldn’t put too much stock in tutorials most of them are heavily edited and almost never show you what happens when things either don’t work or break. Most are nothing more than click bait with Easy in the title.

I would personally play around with the tools in a test level until you get the desired result.

got it working. I believe the main problem was I didnt’ have the extent setting big enough. Thanks for the replies.
