Demo Scene has been updated with the new features and settings
Added ability to switch between seasons in real-time
Created the “seasonal_landscape_master” material to allow build up of snow directly on landscape in real-time and puddles freeze over into ice
Added optional fog to the Global blueprint to make the seasonal transition more believable
Created “seasonal_background_mountains” material to be used in the background which also has real-time snow accumulation based off of the global blueprint “Snow_Coverage”
Fixed grayed out landscape squares by using “wrap mode” on the texture nodes
Optimized landscape material functions to reduce texture count
Video to come soon!
As well as slope based landscape painting to create cliffs with ease!
And bringing over spline tree and wind updates to Procedural Nature Pack v.1 are on their way soon!
Thanks for your patience, I only just now saw your question. The spline roads are actually created using the built in Landscape tools that epic provided. It creates the best results for these purposes. Here is a video showing how to create spline roads using the tool and the included static mesh is meant to be used as the “road static mesh.” The video should answer all of your questions.
Hi @**Jacob-3D, **I’m having a bit of an issue with customising your snow shader, I’m essentially splicing your “add snow” function onto another grass shader, which I have working - except the “Snow Coverage” slider only applies snow to one side of the foliage card between the values 0-1, then the values 2-3 applies the snow to the other side, essentially the “two sided” side of the grass mesh.
Hopefully that makes sense, Here’s a link to a gif showing what I mean, bonus points if you know what’s causing the angular/distance based flickering in the grass mesh in the background
I updated the package since I saw the orange icon on it, but nothing changed at all. There is no “seasonal_landscape_master” or even the fog in the blueprint. All seems to be unchanged…it’s pretty weird!
I also uninstalled the content clearing the cache, redownloaded it but nothing. I tried to update UE4 to latest version, creating a new project…but nothing again.
Why? Am I doing something wrong or I have to wait more for this release?
Thank you Jacob.
Hi there @Kogoshi
Yes, this is because the snow shader is designed to add snow on “up facing normals” of assets. This way it piles up on top of rocks, leaves, etc. In the most recent update I designed a new snow build up for the background mountains, so that the snow builds up from the highest point of the mountain and eventually down to the lowest point. Perhaps this would be a better option for you on the grass as you could apply the same treatment to allow the snow to build up from top to bottom. Once the update is fixed on Epic’s end, please feel free to take a look into the shader and copy the features you like.
Hi Goddener,
You are absolutely right. I have just downloaded the pack and it appears the updates have not processed properly from Epic (even though I received an email saying that have completed.)
I have messaged them now to ask them to re-process the updated files and be sure it goes through to the marketplace. I’m sorry for the inconvenience and the wait. Thank you for your understanding.
I will try to get this sorted out with Epic as soon as possible.
Here is a little preview video (not a full production trailer for the updates) but a simple preview of the dynamic season switch.
Now includes height fog that switches dynamically as more snow and cold enters the scene
Background mountains build up snow from height point to lowest point in real-time and first because of their altitude
Terrain and assets build up snow on top of them slowly as the season gets colder and the snow coverage slider is increased
Ground puddles slowly freeze into ice now
Ground puddles can also be painted with (non-weight blended layers) to actually create a puddle on top of any landscape surface now. Making the most realistic and cheapest puddles
Is there anyway to get the landscape and foliage snow to match up? the grass seems to get the snow quite a lot later. Basically is there anyway to create an animation where the scene goes from summer to winter in one smooth transition?
You can simply assist the “Snow Coverage Override” value on any material instance that you want in the scene. A higher number between 0 - 1 will make snow appear on the way much sooner. So you can say, make the grass snow coverage override .5 - .7 and it should give you the desired effect you’re looking for.
Ah cool, thank you. I assume that is a new feature from the update? any word when it will be available? I updated and nothing seems to have changed. Thanks again!
Just so I understand this correctly, Pack 1 and Pack 2 are two different things but the assets in both can be used together? In other words if someone buys pack 2 is there a reason to buy pack 1? Also does pack 2 do rivers splines or just roads?
I am also interested in answering above question (nrm21122) as I cannot identify if buying vol2 is enough to get all features of that. In other words, is any reason to have also vol1 having vol2 already?
Hey there,
got a small problem with the water material that I do not know how to fix. I didn’t edit anything on it and it looks alright in editor-view. However when I press play, it looks all plain for some reason. Any idea what’s going wrong there?
While applying landscape material, auto foliage is not appear…Only texture visible…No foliages seen on the ground…When adjust the foliage density nothing happen…Please help
I have this same problem. I followed your tutorial (which is very good) but my landscape is black. After about 30-40 min I found out where “weight preview” is and changed as you mentioned (I guessed on the numbers) but nothing changed. I’m super new to unreal. It looks like no material layers came in as with yours. I’m not sure how to put those in. I’m sure I will figure it out eventually but wanted to mention that it did not work as in your video.
I have the same problem as LexRiver, and even after emailing the creator, there have been no reply.
The snow on the trees, road and lake are gone when I use Play mode, Cinematic Render mode and Sequencer mode. The snow only appears when in stand alone mode.
I attach some pictures below to illustrate the problem.I am using Unreal version 4.22.
