Oops! My bad. You do NOT have to be a limited company, according to the Greenlight FAQ. You can be a partnership, or sole trader. They will not split payments though, and REALLY, REALLY recommend being a limited company.
Seriously, if you put something out there without limited liability, and get sued, you could lose everything. Do NOT go into business without limited liability.
Frankly, if you are this worried, then you do not know the other person well enough to go into business with them.
Why should I get(say I stole what?) sued and what’s the point of having a company with limited liability?
You can never be sure of the other person whom you talk via internet. I can’t even be sure even if I make it with a childhood friend too mate…
I’ll tell you one thing: I don’t even trust my *** because one day I wanted to fart and instead I defecated…
omg i laughed so hard reading this. i get your point though. ‘how can i trust any one else when i can hardly trust myself?’
seriously, i would prefer to stay a sole trader and just make a smaller more achievable game if i was aiming to release it on steam. you can always patch/update it later with better assets or code as you grow and can afford to contract in other developers.
i would save the ‘build a game with a team’ for a small local group and then you can have a lawyer help you form a partnership agreement or a company if you need that. start small and keep it simple is my advice.
For what it’s worth:
One guy wanted to get in the team, and we let him in. We shared our google doc with him, our progress on the game with him, we talked about the game and it’s features and everything was for the night. After that, he was never available on skype again and after 2 days he deleted whatever we had written in the google doc plus our work progress now is on his hands (as we uploaded our work for it to be available to everyone in the team)to do it whatever he wants without our permission… And this is a royalty based game…
So don’t ever EVER write here again about people gathering together to make sth for free or royalty as you will just get stolen… So just ask for id cards… It may be extreme but that’s the way to do it…
<removed by mod>
And that’s all folks. Just wanted to share my experience…
The moral: Don’t even trust your ***…
I guess you were right mate… It’s the only way if you really want to do some serious work…
But even this doesn’t prevent them from stealing… But it’s something…
Seriously innos you gotta chill we kicked you out cause you wanted a 3rd person rpg and we were all for a fps. Good luck on your project but bashing on someone else’s is just unprofessional and childish. Next time you join a group you gotta understand that if a whole group votes against something it means you’re the only guy working against the grain and slowing progress. As for this google doc **** i dont have any control over jordan what he does is what he does. Before you trust someone you should let them VIEW the document and after a week edit.
And it rubbed the entire team on day two when you were discussing how you would Sue or beat us up. And we didn’t even have a development plan or any assets. and every discussion you went against the rest of the team and wanted to work on your own project. Why would we keep you when not contributing and talking about wanting a lawyer to ensure a share of the pot or resorting to violence.
We do not condone the acts of deletion of assets (unless any assets were taken from our project which you did not create), however you should have also done your own due diligence to protect your assets.
Don’t slander our team when your goals and intents were screwed from day one Innos.
