Office Hours 9/7

Looking forward to it! :slightly_smiling_face: :blossom:

For future Office Hours, I would love a Verse-focused meeting. Or mechanics in general, with an emphasis on Verse? It would be great if a programmer could lead us through a scripting demo by step like this one Jay posted in the Forums from a Verse Onboarding meeting in July , for those of us who weren’t around back in July. And creators could bring our specific scripting questions and blockers that have come up for us in our projects, so that the team could knock some of them out for us in front of the group. A lot of us probably have similar questions, and some creators might even have answers for each other.

The developer relations team at Core used to host scripting Q & As for the creator community, and it was helpful. They would post an optional Google Form for us to send in our questions ahead of time, so that the Core programmers who were going to answer the questions could get a heads up on what scripting topics creators are interested in. Maybe you could give us creators a heads up before the meeting, about what the demo is going to accomplish (e.g. toggling a Customizable Light on and off with a Button, like in Jay’s Forum post). That way creators could attempt to script it in UEFN on our own before we learn the answer. It doesn’t have to be a lot of prep, it’s casual.

In general, I would love more scripting examples in the docs and the Forums. There are some helpful short scripts in the “Programming with Verse” section of the UEFN docs, but it’s still very sparse. I’ve been consulting the APIs, but it’s nice to see context.

Just some thoughts! I’m primarily an artist but I know some Lua from Core and I really love programming. I can already tell how much more efficient Verse is going to make my mechanics, instead of using Channels.
