Mesh Export Failure

I am trying to export a model created from photography (both ground and drone) and laser scans, but after the process has completed the xyz file does not appear in the folder. This is the second model in succession which has failed in the same way.

The model was constructed by combining laser scan data and photography, reconstructing in normal detail which took in excess of 8 hours, and colourizing which took just over four hours. If I export (I have tried XYZ and PLY) with default settings the task completes after about 1 minute, but there is no file created in the folder. If I disable mesh by parts it fails part way through with an invalid function call. I have tried disabling colours and normals, but there is no difference. The only thing that comes to mind that could possibly be a reason is that the point cloud from the laser scanner has no colour and the photography does not cover the entire area of the laser scan. This would mean that some of the points will have no colour attribute, unless this is created as a greyscale version of the intensity values as it appears in the 3D view.

It should be noted that can export the reconstructed model from the photography alone with colour and normals - this is an earlier component in the same database. As soon as I start the export a file appears in the folder of zero bytes. When I try to export the component with laser scan data included no file is created even during the export process.

Is this a bug, or am I doing something wrong?

Thanks.

Hi RPettener
Please look carefully at where you export the data, as when you DO NOT get an error warning or so, then the model IS exported. We have tested in on even 4,5 billion triangle model with all formats and it exports properly…
Please contact me at milos.lukac@capturingreality.com for further discussion on how to solve this…

HI Robert

I have tried it here with a few different options, Just scandata (scans had color but not aplied) and with scans plus images again with no color applied and the xyz exports fine,

Might be wirth just trying to import the lsp files in to a new project and reconstructing a small part to see if that exports to see if there is an issue there.

Milos Feature request would be to have the export as a PTS file. x y z i nx ny nz where the I is intensity of the scandata or a intesity value based closely to the rgb value against a color bar, or at least intensity based on height. This will be great to get the full res pointcloud in to Cad packages Like Leica Cloudworx

Please address your features requests to this part of the forum: viewforum.php?f=7
Otherwise it might get forgotten here…
