When merging Components, do these need to be basically edge-to-edge with a bit of overlap? Or can e.g. several high-detail Components be created in the middle of a low-detailed overall-view Component, and merged into it?

they do not have to be edge-to-edge. You can for example align full loops around the object mapping its shape and then merge it with the components created from partial loops modelling the detail. Is that what you mean?
