Yes, you can play files located inside a packaged game. However, keep in mind that, for a movie to be packaged, it has to be located inside the /Content/Movies directory.
No, the MediaPlayer is referencing the texture and the sound asset.
spoke too soon - Mac & iOS Media support is being worked on with the hope of getting it complete for the 4.13 final release, but this is not guaranteed.
As stated elsewhere (twice in fact): With a bit of luck an initial AVFoundation implementation will now make it into 4.13 for Mac/iOS/tvOS with any necessary improvements to follow in future releases.
+1 for media framework integration with sequencer.
I am glad to hear that it’s being worked on, and even though I can’t wait to have it, 4.14 sounds great. This will be huge for my work, and will allow my team to integrate further into unreal. Thanks for all the hard work!
Is the media framework working on the mac in preview 2 or not?

My code made it in, so it should. As this came in very, very late in the process it may not be perfect so please let us know if it doesn’t work for you.
Before you go to AnswerHub to report this (which you should do - ideally with a sample movie that isn’t playing), please check two things:
If you are on a Mac, does the video play on the Mac in the Editor and viewport?
Are you using ‘Launch’ to run the game on iOS? If so there may be an issue that means movies aren’t uploaded, you’ll need to use Project Launcher’s Advanced options instead.
Here is what is happening when I try to play a movie that I just imported and im not running on Ios im running on Mac and when I launch the game I use play in a new window in the editor
As a side note, Adobe Premiere seems to be using the QuickTime codec by default (will show up as ‘1cva’ in the Info tab). Those files will not play properly on Windows. Use H.264 encoders for best portability instead.
