Make Epic Games Launcher finds the compiled unreal engine

No progress till 2023 :frowning:
But I found workaround, which may be useful (at least it was for me). I have engine, built from 5.1 sources. It is invisible by Epic Launcher. Then I

  1. installed pre-built engine 5.2 from launcher
  2. clicked on my project file and changed engine version from the one, built from sources, to pre-build one
  3. Opened my project, waited for shaders to be reruilt, etc.
  4. At this moment Epic Launcher finally realized that there is my project and started showing it. I started being able to add assets there, etc.
  5. In similar way I changed version of engine for my project back to 5.1 (built from sources)
  6. Launcher is still able to see it  Even after I deleted pre-built engine from system.

any updates . its 2024

This is seriously a joke, how has this request and feature remained completely side negated for almost 10 YEARS!!! @TJ_V What is going on!?

any updates??

A quick solution to help launcher finds compiled unreal engine is:

  1. Start and Wait for the unreal engine download to reach a few megabytes.
  2. Stop the download and exit the launcher by right click on its icon.
  3. Copy your backed-up Unreal Engine files to the new installation location.
  4. Run the launcher again and resume download, It will automatically verify your files.

That didn’t work anymore. Verifying that source build from epic game launcher overwrote that source build with the distribution binaries and ■■■■■■ everything up..
