Went with Blueprints in the end, ended up spending waaaaay too much time playing with skyboxes, materials and particles, all of which I haven’t really used much before. Hopefully I manage to get some actual gameplay done aside from just flying around by the end of tomorrow. I’ve learnt a lot from it though, seeing loads of asteroids spinning around planets is pretty cool
One problem I’m having though, the asteroids spin around the planets fine in the editor when I simulate or play, but if I launch or deploy a packaged version the asteroids don’t move, it’s very odd
I wasn’t able to finish a game since I got caught up making this: https://youtube.com/watch?v=1JXVBuNHy_s
So basicaly I made the animation and input controls for a game where the movement is controled with one stick or the keyboard and the aiming is done with the other stick or the mouse.
Overall I’m happy with the result, but there is some jerkiness in the movement when the character switches from strafing sideways to running. Not sure how to fix this tbh, maybe it’s just be the weird animations.
I played the games posted here, it’s quite impressive how much you got done in that short timeframe!
I happened to get my Oculus DK2 on Friday, and set forth in an attempt to make something for LD30 - learning the limitations, special considerations, and optimizations specifically for the Rift made my progress slow going. I should be done with my game by the end of the week, and I’ll post info/a link in the released section for anyone who is interested. Glad to see so many UE submissions!
