Lets check the Guardian, the newspaper with their Pro EU agenda btw the one that accused nigel farrage of being a racist even though he won the Brexit campaign and the paper that constantly posts feminist propaganda all the time. Lets examine this “science”
Based in San Francisco, GitHub is a giant repository of code used by over 12 million people
LOL and according to the research 6 months ago BTW, there is a 4% difference in superior code written by women over men. Even though There are about 18.2 million software developers worldwide which is NOT included in this survey
But this lady is suggesting that the data from 3M pulls from Git Hub used by 12 million people is anywhere near an accurate representation of 4% of all code written women are superior.
And she calls this her use of “science” ow dear. lol
You are wrong, race has nothing to do with how good a product will be and as for diversity yeah plenty companies tried creating games with 3rd world settings like say remodeling slums in Africa in 3D wanna know how far that got us? yeah thought so.
Wanna know successful games that were not created based on nonsense like race and skin color? Left 4 Dead 2, DOTA 2 and CS GO which continues to rank as not only the top played games of their class but also stands the test of time as the top played of its class to this day many years later.
If anything, the games adding females for the sake of political correctness are some of the worst games. There is a reason CS GO is the number 1 Esport FPS on Planet Earth and COD is not. So much for diversity adding so much to the product.
Maybe just maybe, games are about gameplay and whats fun. And has nothing to do with gender or race but what the heck do I know.
If that is one of your goals, you are actively working against it.
A suggestion for next time:
Put a call out for “experienced VR developers” at X location. State that you are trying to put together a diverse panel (age, sex, race, etc). Do not specifically ask for applications from only one demographic. Then go about arranging your panel behind closed doors, you can select for whatever ratios you want.
As it is, you have just created a negative image of the event (for men and women alike). Many people would find it unpleasant to attend or speak at an event where they knew explicit quotas created the line up. This goes just as much for female developers, as feeling like you attained an opportunity because of factors besides your skill and value to the audience can foster “imposter syndrome”. So what I’m saying is: feel free to manipulate the speaker demographics for whatever social effect you are looking for, but avoid publicising your manipulation if you want it to be effective.
Well this thread certainly is a garbage fire isn’t it?
Perfect example of people talking past each other and not with each other.
Please have respect for others and their points of view.
You know what widely successful games feature great diverse characters? Last of Us, Undertale, Mass Effect, Bayonetta, Overwatch, etc, etc. They all have strong characters and great writing at their core, and they are better due to their diversity.
I’m pretty sure an EPIC Engine developer would say “please stop screaming at each other”.
At this point I would suggest that the only useful purpose this thread still holds is to demonstrate to everyone how pointless conversations like this are once everyone starts yelling at each other.
Alternatively, how great would it be if we all realised how out of control the thread has gotten, all took a time out to cool off, then came back and had another go at talking about it but this time without losing our cool.
One key that I find helpful, is to try and be more focused on explaining why I think what I think in a way that I’m happy with rather than on whether or not I’ve managed to get the other person to agree with me.
Basically I’ll say my bit as well as possible, then after that whether or not someone comes around to my way of seeing things is entirely up to them.
You can lead a horse to water, but you can’t make them drink
^ I agree but the key difference here is that what the OP suggests is infact discrimination and against the law to make a public post stating their goal is recruiting someone based on their gender to fill a role that any sex can fill. I mean I get we all have different opinions on things and thats what makes us different. But there is no way around the whole hiring someone because they are Gender X or Race X, thats discrimination no matter how you look at it and it creates a very unhealthy society on the whole.
