Laserscan Marker

Hello,

does RC also recognize Black and White paper Targets from Laserscanners?

Like this: https://knowledge.faro.com/@api/deki/files/12389/checkerboard.png?revision=1

Hello Julian,
RealityCapture can automatically detect several marker types, including circular and square April tags. Unfortunately, not this one. But you can generate the targets directly from the application in the Alignment tab - Detect Markers tool.

Then you can use the same tool to automatically detect them on the .lsp files generated from the laser scan point cloud.

thanks Zuzana ! So could i use the coordinates measured by Laserscanner from these Tags as GCP’s/CP’s for the Images?

Because i think it is more accurate than doing the alignment of Laserscanning and Images at once. I did another Post with this question today. would be awsome if you could give an answer :-)!

Thanks

If the same points are located also on images then yes, you can detect them on both sets of inputs. If you want to use them as GCPs, you can change their type after the detection and then assign or import the coordinates.

Control points help in merging the images and lasers together, mainly in the areas where the overlap between the inputs is not sufficient or RC cannot detect the same points on lasers and images.

Okay, so if I would scan without color, could I still merge Laserscans and Images with the Control Points?

Hello Zuzana,

I made a few Laserscans in my office with markers on the wall and i scanned with color. i printed out 4 markers on a DIN4 paper and the max. distance from the scanner was 2,5m. I can Align the Scans with no problem but the detect markers tool doesn’t work.

I selected all lsp files with strg+A and it doesn’t detect any marker.

Can you help me?

Hello Julian,

would it be possible to send me some sample scan so that I can check it on our side? If yes, you can send me a download link via contact form on our webpage. Please include also the type of markers that you used. Thank you.
