HUGE AMD GPU issue with UNREAL 4 Engine. R7, R9, series graphic cards. (Posted on AMD support too)

I just purchased today a Sapphire R9 380 4GB Nitro OC, and experienced multiple freezes and crashes in Unreal Tournament that led to hard resets for my computer, problem was solved when I set shadows to Low. Haven’t tried UE4 yet and sure hope that I don’t have similar issues cause I bought this card as an affordable upgrade solution for learning UE4 and Blender though I did know that Blender performs better on Nvidia cards, not that it has any issues with AMD cards, didn’t know that UE4 had such issues with r7 and r9 AMD cards. Have you tried completely uninstalling all AMD drivers with DDU?

It would be good to know what happened. Not sure if upgrade to a 390 or 970.

R9-290 with driver (15.301.1201…) running without problems, except the Maya marquee bug.

I’ve finished yesterday Epic’s basic video introduction to editor tutorials and I didn’t have any problems at all. Performance of the card was excellent and the card was ultra silent too, but that is contributed to Sapphire’s odd fan control scheme that activates the fans when the GPU hits 50 degrees temperature and above. Of course, I didn’t do anything demanding in the engine, I used the starter package to place objects, assign materials, play with cameras and movement of objects, check many editors of the engine and do their tutorials, but I had none problems.
As for the games, the problem with UT is solved and it performs flawlessly with ultra high graphics and fps. Also, keep in mind that UT is in pre-alpha state so any problem with any card is justifiable. I’ve tried my card with the other games I have currently installed, which are Arma 3, Insurgency, the Talos Principle, and I had no problems there too.
So, maybe the problems OP has with these AMD cards could be located at his motherboard or sound card, I don’t know.
As for your decision, many state that nvidia cards are more stable and perform better in different software, for an example in Blender you could do Hardware rendering with an nvidia card for ages and for AMD it’s implemented recently and doesn’t support all features yet. Maybe this case is with other software too. But I have always used AMD cards both for their performance in gaming and for their cost. The cost of nvidia cards is not justifiable in my opinion, they sell same or subpar level of hardware compared to AMD in twice or even more the cost of an AMD card, this is unacceptable to me.
But if I was financial comfortable and could afford to pay twice or thrice the price of an AMD card I would tried, just to see for myself if these cards are truly that stable, although keep in mind that many of these reviews on the internet are from nvidia fanboys and lack objectivity.
