The one thing that pops out is the amount of RAM you have. Consider getting as much RAM as you can up to 32GB of RAM. Also, need to ensure that you are running on the external video card, not the one built in on the CPU. Finally, if you are going to do C++, your compile times might not be fun on larger project or compiling from source.
