Grass with meshes - Advice for look and performance?

You still have to add some colour variation to your grass material

  • do you use a foliage shader for your tree?

In the following image i’m using Speedtree Colour Variation with value 0.05 and the change is already pretty drastic. I wonder if the variation should be this fast?

I’m using 2-Sided Foliage Shader. It feels like it’s leaking light through on the edges of leaves.

  1. yep, that’s a little bit too drastic -> decrease it to a lower value. In my opinion you get a more realistic look when you do it with a own colour variation setup + a colour cloud texture -> ?v=cp6JQVHWeEw
  2. that can be caused by the SSS effect -> you can use a mask for it so that the effect just appears on special parts of the leaves + what happens when you disable it? Also make sure to post a pic of your material setup
  1. Nice tip, thanks!

  2. Actually i don’t have the Subsurface Shader on. I’m using the Two-Sided Foliage shader. Or is this another setting?
