Github linking isn't working

I just submitted a bug report on this issue. Probably not proper use of the system… But there sure are a lot of us stuck here. I’ll keep you posted if I hear anything.

Still same issue…
Almost seems like they aren’t adding anyone to the community.

Finally some sort of answer, apparently the automated account liking program isn’t working, however they are working on a solution and are trying to link accounts of those who have been affected by the issue. Furthermore they said that they are trying to come up with a better “more robust” way of linking accounts for the future.

Source of answer

Hi everyone,

As VlinkZ3 mentioned, we just realized that the automated process that links Unreal Engine and GitHub accounts had recently failed silently. We are working on finding a solution to get that automated process running again, as well as finding a more robust method for linking accounts (the current process is a fairly simple one that has been in place since Unreal Engine 4 launched, and this is the first time it has experienced a major failure).

We are also trying to find out if we can see what accounts have attempted to link a GitHub account since the automated process failed, and whether we can put that link in place for those accounts. The linking process was never intended to have any manual interaction, so we are still unsure if we have the ability to link the accounts that have been affected by this.

Unfortunately we do not currently have a timeframe for when we will be able to get everything working again. We are hoping that we will be able to get the current process running again soon, but the longer-term solution that we are investigating will take quite a bit more time to put in place.

It’s still not working!
I received an exactly same email as before. It seems that the Github account mentioned in the email is wrong, which is not the username i set in Epic Game user personal setting.
Anything else going wrong?

Could you perhaps run some kind of workaround to semi-manualy send invitations to currently waiting users so all waiting people here are unblocked?

I have access to the repo!!! Thank you so much!!!

Everyone should be able to link accounts again. We’re aware of an error that’s displayed on the Connected Accounts page. Refreshing the page will show that the accounts were successfully linked.

Thanks. I have access to the repo too.

Works now, thanks a lot.

It works too. thanks

Hi, i don´t know if it stop working again, but I haven´t received any email for days to have access to github repository.
Yes i have linked my GitHub account to the UE4.

Hi Julia,

Try checking your spam folder. In the event you still can’t find the email, please try unlinking your accounts and relinking them to trigger another one. Please let me know if that helped.

Sean

It works, unlinking and relinking it worked. Thanks, have a wonderful day

how do you unlink and relink?

Still cant find a way to link github

To unlink and relink your account, log into unrealengine.com, proceed to your personal profile, then select the Connected Accounts section.

Remove your username from the GitHub Account Name field, then save to remove it. Fill out the field again, save, then make sure to validate the linkage from the email that you’ll receive.

I’ve tried that, but now it always says this account is used by another account. I can’t re-link it to any unreal account now. I even linked my old a account to a dif GitHub, but it still thinks the original is in use. There’s no way for me to link my real GitHub account now.

We’ve just rolled out a pretty big update at unrealengine.com. We’ve implemented OAuth functionality to better link GitHub accounts.

Can you please try unlinking your accounts and trying again? You’ll notice a completely different flow than before.

Let me know if that resolved it.

Thanks!
