Frozen Sand began as a mod team under the Silicon Ice Development banner working on a mod of the game Quake 3 back in early 2000. This mod was the Urban Terror title that still survives today supporting our small but active community of players.
Recently we made the decision to replace our current game engine, based on the idtech3 design, with Unreal Engine 4, due in large part to our inability to continue to supply our players with feature additions and player services.
As part of that decision, we decided to be more open as to the current status of the development of the game on an ongoing basis by blogging, both video and written. We plan on bringing you interesting behind the scenes of what it takes to deliver a playable game to the masses.
Being able to start with a clean slate, so to speak, the plan is to get into the nuts and bolts of how decisions are made, what applications we use and how we use them, and perhaps touch on the darker side of games development that is not always warm and fuzzy.
