Good luck !
I am sure you will just rebuild even stronger than before!
Good luck !
I am sure you will just rebuild even stronger than before!
Thanks !
Hi , I was one of who funded your project book. I’m sorry that you lost. Don’t give up, I believe you can do it better. I just know you open another donate. I will help donate as I can. Because I hope that book will help me release first UE4 game in my country.
Thank you
Kridsadar_san, Siu-tien Yuen
Sorry for my bad english
I could donate in a few weeks.
You can use as a reason to potentially overhaul/revamp/upscale the book to make sure that lots of people are interested in buying it when it’s released.
Hello everyone!
Thanks for the lovely messages everyone, it’s super-nice to hear all these nice words from everyone!
I’m working on re-working all the books; The original books are being re-written (Yes, Completely re-written!) which will help tidy them up, (Yes, I’ll even be editing them!) and update them to the current Unreal Engine version. So You Want To Make Video-Games is also being re-written (Even though there was back-up on Google Drive, I feel that the direction it was going wasn’t ideal) but I know you beautiful people will be dying to hear about the next the Art of Blueprints books, so let me break down how all my time in the near future is going to be spent:
the Art of Blueprints 1 -3 are being re-written and combined into one book (I’m also working on an APP version which will hopefully do the project WITH you as you’re doing it as opposed to just being standard text!) [Just need to figure out how to hook into the engine to observe what the user is doing, but the APP is waaaayyyy down the line!)
the Art of Blueprints 4 - Point and Click should be out in the next few weeks give or take!
Super Distro is being completely re-made and more information on that can be found on the site: CLICK ME
I’m also working on making the books accessible in as many languages as possible. I’m working with a few translators now and should hear back pretty soon!
So You Want To Make Video-Games? is being re-written and the IndieGoGo invites to see live-writing should be going out once the teaser for Super Distro is out the door!
Remember that I will giving away all the development files (From concept to the final project) on as well FOR FREEEEE as always!
All of has been possible thanks to my beautiful girlfriend, whose built a new PC and has sorted out some cloud storage for source control for me - So give her a big thanks! None of would be possible without her!
And that about wraps it up for update, seriously I can’t thank everyone enough for the support you’ve all given me and I hope you’ll enjoy all the future content I create for you all to enjoy!
Have a nice morning/evening/night/whatever everyone!
Hello everyone,
Quick update: I use CreateSpace to send the physical books. The price covers printing costs and the rest of the money goes towards the servers I was planning to purchase to put the content up and the rest of the money was to help the development of future free books.
Why am I telling you ? Because month, I was supposed to receive £300 (Yes, £300) - We sold THAT many books! It was crazy; That money could’ve funded the development of the free books for a whole year as well as paying for the dedicated file server on Amazon as well as much extra secrets I was planning to give to you all. Now, I received an email a couple days ago telling me that I was to be paid £100. That’s £200 that’s gone missing. I’ve tried contacting them and they’ve turned around and pretty much called me liar; Even though I’ve got all the proof that the amount I was supposed to be receiving was supposed to be £300.
means that CreateSpace have technically stolen £200. While it might not sound much to a lot of you, was the money that supposed to fund free book operation for a whole year; Now i’m left with only enough to do the next few months of book writing - No server, no special secrets, nothing.
Why does matter? - Basically it means I’m being scammed by the book distributors, which means I will have to find an alternative source to sell the books. So will be an extra delay while I have to hunt down a good alternative before the books can continue. also means in the next few days the books will be taken off sale (And thus the free e-books will be put on hold while I have to waste extra dev time sorting a solution out).
Talk about a terrible month, eh? - I totally lost my PC AND I’m being scammed by a company that was supposed to be helping me helping you all out.
Things just get better and better.
Never-the-less, I’ll let you all know when I find an alternative publisher and when things are sorted out. I’ve tried sorting out with CreateSpace but they’ve just turned around and pretty much called me a liar, so there goes the civil route.
Anyway, have a great day / night / evening everyone,
I hope your month is going better than mine.
I’ve heard from a lot of user requesting something like … Now, thanks to you, there’s a reference to point them to so they can at least “get their feet wet.” -Great work!
Thanks ! I’m re-writing them to be even more reader friendly to everyone and I’m also working on “So You Want To Make Video-Games?” to help EVERYONE make games from start to finish from idea to Unreal Engine 4 to shipping!
If feasible, lawyer up and sue for damages. You’re losing potential sales because of their actions (let alone the theft).
Sorry to hear about your publishing woes… Hopefully you will be able to overcome obstacle soon. “So You Want to Make Video Games” sounds like a much needed reference that I hope you will profit from while helping the entire community out -Looking forward to seeing more from you sooner than later!
As if going bad to worst, the books are being illegally ripped-off and sold on a (Chinese?) website. Great. Now not only am I being screwed over by CreateSpace but some people in have stolen my Copyright and are profiting from it.
's the link for proof:
Anyone know of any good UK Lawyers I can talk to? It’s time for me to lawyer up
I see your name & mail on the book but you can leave a message in English and see what happens
Yeah, but they are charging for a book that I created and there’s no way to create an account without being Chinese (You need to use Chinese characters in your name). Also, seeing as it’s the site’s Admin whose put the book up for sale, I doubt a message would last for long.
Man i’m so sorry for what is happen to you.
It seem you’ll getting all the possible worst.
I hope you find soon a good layer and in the meanwhile if you need support, just tell us, how.
I wouldn’t waste time worrying about the Chinese, they seem to live outside the bounds of legality, mostly. I would just move on.
(huge companies like BMW, Mercedes tried to sue them for copying their cars, Chinese just responded with those cars look nothing like yours and that was the end of it. They write & interpret their own laws it seems)
(disclaimer: information was derived from information from multiple media sources and in no way should reflect mine or UE/Epic’s opinions on or the Chinese people)
And at least it might be contributing to the community, maybe in a strange, unorthodox manner, but you are still helping UE users, because what else could someone use it for but for Unreal Engine.
don’t give up, I really like your work & what you are trying to do. good luck as you move on into the future.
Thanks for the kind words everyone!
I decided to turn into a positive and 's a*** super sneak peak ***of what to expect (My screenshotting abilities totally suck).
seriously wouldn’t have been possible without all of you and the wonderful people at Epic!
NOTE: Sorry about the image sizes, if a mod can re-size them, that’d be swell!
To pre-answer some questions:
Yes, 100% free. We’re talking almost a full tutorial a day, the books will be there too as well as video guides. BUT THAT’S NOT ALL - We’re not only going to be teaching about doing cool things in Unreal Engine 4 and learning how to create specific games in Unreal Engine 4, but we’ll also be diving into fundamentals of video-game design and doing break-downs of established games, explaining what works and what doesn’t and what you can use in your own projects (With links to write-ups on the site on how to achieve it)
For example at GDC ( year?) Levine talked about Narrative legos in which we’d recap, explain why it’s good for your next game design, what it could be used for as well as a guide into implementing an example into an Unreal Engine 4 project.
We’d also go through things like level design, packaging your projects and getting them to Microsoft / Sony / Steam, Creating side-stories for your games, Character development, Why X game is awesome, How to develop a sequel to your project to be even bigger and better without going overboard .etc
Yes, it’s all free. 100% funded by myself and my beautiful girlfriend Scarlett, just for you guys 'n gals and everyone who wants to learn how to create their dream video-games and/or refine their skills for their next project.
I hope you all enjoy. When the site launches (TBA, I’ve got three books and a game to make as well!), the content will be added almost daily!
I bet some of you are thinking: Why not use the Wiki? And is my answer for you:
A lot of people who are using other engines don’t use the Wiki and other people are turned off by the idea of using a Wiki for information. It’s sad but it’s life - No matter how much Epic are putting their love into the Wiki ;)], A lot of information will still go unnoticed by a lot of people. I mean there’s so many tutorials on the Wiki at the moment that are just getting unread. The amount of times people have asked for help in the and the wiki has had the answer (Pretty much) on the homepage!
site will store all the content I create for Unreal Engine 4 developers as well as people interested in developing video-games, subliminally nudging them that Unreal Engine 4 is the way to go. I’ve tried my hardest to make the website look as interactive as possible and “Bad-***” so people who don’t know that a lot of Unreal Engine 4 can still learn and still feel like all the information they need is at their fingertips.
Also, as I’ll also be covering all aspects of Game Design (As well as implementing it into Unreal Engine 4!) so I felt that being a separate entity to the wiki would help people who are looking for that specific thing.
But I don’t mind putting a lot (if not all) of the tutorials on the Wiki if so requested!
So yeah, enough rambling, is what “So You Want To Make Video-Games?” was born to become. Every piece of the website will eventually be turned into a book, translated into as many languages as possible and shipped to schools and libraries ALL OVER THE WORLD. Again, totally free.
All of is out of mine (And Scarlett’s Pocket!) so I really do hope you lovely people enjoy what’s to come!
EDIT:
The new site should actually be live soon, Just waiting 'till payday to get the domain and once that’s done we can go live! I don’t normally ask for donations, but I’ll ask now! If anybody wants the site to go live ASAP AND wants their name engraved virtually forever as one of the founders of the site, then head over to donation link and once done, email me your name and email (To confirm it was you!)
Just to confirm, I will be purchasing the domain and some server space to files for the FREE Game Development with Unreal Engine 4 around January the 1st (Which is when I get paid from the previous book sales!), however if anybody in the community is feeling generous and wants to help out the world with Unreal Engine 4 and Game Development, they can donate to the site so I can purchase the domain sooner and the server space and as soon as the domain has been purchased, the site can go live! Technically, With YOUR help the site could go up TOMORROW!
As I said I don’t normally ask for donations (I feel quite bad for doing so), but in the end it’s an option of getting the content out there sooner with YOUR help! And as previously stated, as a thank-you, you name will be virtually engraved on the site forever and your name will be placed in the special thanks of all future books.
Sadly, I can’t offer anything else for donating as the site is 100% free (From the tutorials to the write-ups to the free content!) but you’ll also get my eternal thanks - And I’m sure everyone who benefits from the site will be greatful too!
's the donation link once again: CLICK ME.
Thanks everyone, you all rock!
Stay awesome everybody!
nice! good to see ! & happy to see you posting again!
A lot & even most sites put up a place to take donations, and I believe ya’ll should set up your site to take them as well. Just put it over to the side & tell people that’s it’s appreciated if they can help out, it’s as simple as that. ya might not get rich, but I bet a lot on UE & on the internet would be willing to help out. A lot of sites & major projects get their funding way.
Anyway, glad to see ya’ll are continuing to work on . I like the layout and comprehensive way you explain, show, and work thru the BPs.
And I think ya’ll should post to the Wiki as you go, then link back & forth from your site.
oh well, again, good to see post.
Thanks for the suggestions and praise!
I’d love to hear what others think as well!
Sound to me an awesome idea.
is not an how to or something like a tutorial… is a formation course. I seen something like on sites with monthly subscription.
And these lessons are far over what there’s on the net under subscription.
Man you’re becoming our Yoda!!!
Anyway, do you mean to include C++ courses or you will teach using through blueprint?
Haha, Thanks!
Yeah, We’ll be covering a lot of C++, starting off simple and then branching out doing things like plugins and also editing the engine to suit your needs (Which will be difficult as I’ll have to be vague about certain things as I’m not allowed to distribute lines of Unreal Engine 4 source code, But I already have a good idea on how to get around !)
But as I believe in choice, if it can be done in both then there will be tutorials in both to help users learn in what they feel most comfortably with!
Basically, anything Unreal Engine 4 and Game development will be covered, and as I said, 100% free for everyone!
