Forgotten Graveyards: Low Poly Cemetery and Nature Mega Pack

Subsurface scattering looks good on low poly candles

(UE4.26 render)

Working on lighting propsā€¦ almost at the end of modellingā€¦ just a few categories left after that: statues, church and (optionally) few extra models for sidewalks/paths/roadsā€¦ so closeā€¦

Btw. here are some of those candles in blender (very old render from 2020 - did them for a small project that is basically an inspiration for the whole asset pack):

Hi there @VertexMachine !

Thanks a lot for this! I think Iā€™ve seen Grant Abbitt a time or two but I didnā€™t take the time to watch thoroughly. The shortcuts is where I may be having the issues with because Iā€™ll do something that seems like what Iā€™m meant to be following but due to outdated tutorials and things or different layouts it can get confusing when trying to cut corners.

I may try working on some of my own low poly projects and see if I feel brave enough to post, haha.

I think most shortcuts (I can only recall now one that did change - merge by distance) donā€™t change a lot. But also if you hit F3 (default, I have it set to space  ) you can type and youā€™ll find most functionality that way. If you get stuck at something feel free to DM me (here, or on other socials: vertexrage | Twitter, Instagram, Facebook, TikTok | Linktree)

Good luck :crossed_fingers:

Almost all lighting props done. Before I prepare proper update - a quick sneak peak of a lamp and brazier from inside Blender:

Another quick update. Tested the lamp posts in UE (5.3):

Time for ā€œproperā€ update. I added a few categories of ā€˜lighting related propsā€™. Now aside from candles, there are grave lanterns, lamp posts, torches and braziers.

Candles:

Torches:

Braziers:

And Lamps:

Do note that lamp posts are in principle modular. There are 2 bases (clean, two damaged variants and broken variant), 3 set of chains and 3 types of lamps. Aside from adding some color variations those parts can be used for creating quite a few variants. I made just 6 as examples.

The lighting in a ā€œspookyā€ environment is easily the most important element to me. It makes a scene come to life in such a unique way. I canā€™t wait to see how these look in an actual graveyard  Also, thanks for continuing to share your updates. So cool getting to see it all develop!

Oh yea, I agree - lighting is super importantā€¦ but also very hard to get right . I kind of like tinkering with lighting, so hopefully Iā€™ll be able to come up with something nice looking.

And thank you for your kind words of encouragement!

Hi @VertexMachine !

Iā€™m still working hard after the last time I checked in, but I wanted to pop in and say Iā€™m loving the continuous growth I see. I certainly aspire to be able to produce something like you have in hopes it reaches the right people like you did with me!

Can I ask how you got the swarming bug effect on the lanterns in your cinematic?

Itā€™s a particle from some asset pack, I canā€™t recall which (I will do some particles for this asset pack, but thatā€™s after I finish modelling).

Almost at the finish line with low poly Forgotten Graveyards asset pack for Unreal Engine. Around 2.2k models for this beast (including nature models). Wondering about compatibility. 5.1 is enough?

Alsoā€¦ Iā€™m thinking of having releasing 2 packs out of it actually (one bundle, one props). So after that this low poly situation on Unreal Marketplace would be:

  1. Low Poly Nature pack - environment category (808 models), already releleaed
  2. Low Poly Graveyards + Nature - environment category (2.2k models), including all the models, new demo map(s)
  3. Low Poly Graveyards - props category (~1.4k models), just overview map and models

What do you think about that?

Edit: I plan to add a few models as update (e.g., statues, church etc.), but for now I think itā€™s already more than enough for the pack.

Low poly candle flames particles made in Niagara for the asset pack:

And a torch vfx:

Plus quick in-editor version without post processing:

And last of the ā€œbunchā€: brazier flames (and dust).

Now need to ā€œpackage it upā€ and will submit it to Unreal Engine Marketplace. That was quite the journey to get to this place (though, still will need to do a demo map for proper environment version of the pack that will include both nature and graveyard models)

Hello again @VertexMachine !

Itā€™s been a while but I adore seeing the progress that youā€™ve made. I first wanted to state that I am in love with the braziers youā€™ve made for this pack as the variety is more than what I normally get to see.

In regards to your post about releasing the pack in 3 separate forms I think that would be a good idea if youā€™re comfortable. Splitting the pack allows for people to pick up one if theyā€™re not looking for the full pack and also depending on how you wish to price it make it more affordable over time. I know Iā€™ll be picking this up when it releases so Iā€™m going to keep a close eye on your release!

Once again: thank you for your kind words!

Yes! I will release 2 extra version (so 3 in total: nature, graveyard, nature+graveyard). I figured out one extra reason, which basically overridden any of my previous doubts. If I would release just 2 packs, anybody that would have already bought Low Poly Nature, would have to re-buy it in a sense to get the graveyard part. Wouldnā€™t feel good with that.

The ā€œpropsā€ version (no demo map, no nature part) is almost done. Iā€™m making screenshots and preparing description for the store page. Itā€™s still a bit of work, but I should submit it today/tomorrow. So assuming marketplace reviews will go well: it will be available quite soon.

The ā€˜bundleā€™ one, will take a few more days. Making a good demo map takes a bit of timeā€¦

I finally submitted the ā€˜propsā€™ version of Forgotten Graveyards to Unreal Engine Marketplace  . 1.4k modelsā€¦ that was a lot of workā€¦
