Hey guys i hope i can help you as i have also been messing with this for 3 days recently and finally got it done. i had the following scenario:
-the ports were enabled correctly
-the client resolved the DNS address correctly when establishing the connection (via public IP / DNS) and also recognized that a server is running on port 7777
-client sends packets and for whatever reason gets no response when trying to connect.
If you have the same problem, try the following:
-start your server
-start the client
-turn off the windows firewall for a short time and try to connect (even if you have already added your game as an exception!!!)
-if a connection is now established, which I hope for all of you, I know what the problem is.
FIRST OF ALL TURN YOUR FIREWALL BACK ON!
open your windows firewall settings (or whichever one you are using) and go to the point where you can add an exception.
open your server and the task manager.
search for your server in the task manager, right click on it and select “open file path”
now a folder should open with a different exe of your game than the one you ran.
(the one the bootstrapper starts when you click on your built exe)
and THIS exe must be added to your firewall as an exception.
in my case it worked let me know if it works for you too
