I’m also pulling my hair out with this general content move/redirector problem. I spent a whole day reorganising content as I have a lot of materials, meshes and textures that have been collected over time and I wanted a neat and organised reference library. I spent another day trying to recover everything that broke and finally gave up. I’ve tried the fix redirectors thing, but that didn’t work. Too late obviously since I had assumed empty folders were empty… and so deleted them out of the file system, so lost all the redirectors. Most of my meshes have now blank textures, and there’s no way I can go through them all and re-link them without wasting days!!
Man this sucks.
I believe it is called bug UE-1206 … but what’s worse is that’s it was raised and logged a year ago on UE4AnswerHub… and still not fixed.
:-/
Anyway… Unreal… can you give this bug a higher priority pretty please?
This is an old thread, but if anyone else comes across it, I have managed to avoid all issues for the past few months. Also, things seem less crashy with later version of 4.7 and now 4.8.
So do this:
Whenever you move anything, immediately save all, then fix up redirectors. if it complains about forcing anything… don’t delete them!. Go to Content folder, save all again, fix redirectors again, save all again.
it should then give you an option to just simply delete redirectors (no mention of forcing) - so you are good to go.
whatever you do, don’t move or delete a “folder” without steps 1 and 2 complete. And after you move a folder do steps 1 and 2.
if you delete a folder, make sure … 1) and 2) are done first. Then when it deletes it may not disappear. Do it again, and it will go.
Good idea to also go to the file share and delete the files/folders as well… as sometime they come back if you don’t.
Yes, that’s really annoying. Spent several hours just with deleting some folders. These redirector files are making me crazy, why isn’t it possible to reference all ressources through invidual IDs and storing their current, relative filepath in a lookup table or something?
