Hi , as requested, I’m posting back here with an issue that is still occurring for affected maps.
So 4.13 has fixed this error for me, but now another error has taken place. After working on the foliage for one of the previously affected maps and saving it again, re-opening it causes it to crash shortly after it has been loaded (unlike previously when it would crash before loading with the 4.12 error) I get a Critical Error, but I’m not sure what to make of it, I’ll paste it here for reference.
Thank you for the update. Does this only occur with a specific asset or is it any asset used in the foliage tool? What steps can I take to recreate this on my end?
Hello , I’m having the same issue as he listed. What I did was that I had my 12.5 project, switched unreal engine version to 13, launched and continued to edit. I built everything, got no errors. When I attempted to play though I got this error. Now this error happens at launch. So far deleting the saved and intermediate doesn’t do anything to it.
Thank you for your reply. This is the exact same map that crashed in 4.12, so could it be corrupt in some regard? I was totally able to work on it with zero issues for its first launch, however after I made adjustments to the landscape’s foliage and saved the map, I then experienced it constantly crashing after trying to load the map again. I cannot tell if it’s only occurring with a specific asset, but as far as I can tell it’s any asset used in the foliage tool. Thanks again, hoping that we can work together to get this issue resolved swiftly for myself and for others who may be experiencing the same thing.
Update: Another one of the affected maps from 4.12 just crashed and I hadn’t even modified the landscape/foliage. We had two maps that we saved in 4.12 that were affected by this bug, and it seems that they open fine until they’ve been modified and saved, opening them after that point results in it crashing. Latest crash log uploaded.
Quick update; it’s happening for all of our maps. Not sure how to proceed. Just tried creating a new map in the project and did a landscape, made changes, saved it, reopened it and it didn’t crash, so it’s only pre-existing maps that it happens to. (This may be a bug with the Landscape Auto Material pack, but I can’t determine otherwise currently.)
Hey Bryst, I fixed my problem by copying the entire contents of the map into a new, blank map. Do you have a backup of your map before you saved it? If so, open that one and copy it all into a blank map. If not, does your crashing map open momentarily before crashing? Or does it crash before the map even opens? If it does open momentarily, see if you can CTRL+A everything and copy it. I don’t know if there’s a way to stop the shaders from loading so that you can copy everything before it crashes.
Hi, I’ve tried this but seem to get the same result… am possibly not running the editor in the same way, how do I re-build the editor? Is this something to do with the github version vs the launcher?
Please help, I’m desperate to get this level back! I swear I’ll never touch foliage again!
You need to be running a source build from github in order to make that change. If you’re not using source, you’ll need to update to 4.13.2 in order to resolve the crash.
