HI, I was trying to export mesh from reality capture as fbx file, the exported file is 8Gb, the process seems alright with textures and fbx all exported, but none of any 3d software can open that fbx, including maya, max, blender, marmoset, they all show the file can’t be read, it become empty node after I imported into the scene, I was using fbx2020, and it worked as obj file, any ideas of why this happened? thanks
Hello @zhalimuto01
There is FBX file size limit. Please, check this: FBX Export File Size
Thanks! ok, I have got it, but I also exported the obj file, which is around 30gb, is there also a size limit for the obj? as I couldnt load into any programs either.
30 GB file is quite big file to open. Try to simplify the model to a smaller one and export that.
Do you see the same error for OBJ? What are you export settings?
I just used the default settings, with transformation preset set to Maya, Arnold, the error was something like " you have encounter a fatal gpu error, etc" , seems more like a memory issue, which is different from fbx error, for the fbx error, it simply didnt load any models in the scene without warning any errors.
For which app have you seen that fatal GPU error?
marmoset toolbag 5.0
Can you try the exports of the simplified models (like, simplify it to 5M tris model and then export)?
I think once it’s 5 mill for sure it will work, but I thought it will sacrafice the quality of the orginal models? I was trying to bake the diffuse, normal, ao,cavity maps from the orginal highpoly model onto the simplified lowpoly, my understanding for the original model the higher polycounts the better?
Sometimes you need to make a compromise to get the usable model.
Also, it depends what is the usage of the created model. But simplifying in a sense way could be almost as good as the original model.
I hope in the future RC could support baking the AO, cavity, curvature and other maps, I have mentioned it in another thread, currently it only supports baking the normal, diffuse and displacement, which is the reason I have to go to other program to bake all the other maps…
