FAB & Issues with IP Infringement (copied, ripped, or stolen meshes)

Let me link you to that.

Here it is from PCGamer

Yes - this is exactly the concern. This is why I say FAB unfortunately is not usable for game development right now.

Epic seems to currently have no concern for Indie Devs being subject to unknowing infringement and potentially have their games delisted etc. from platforms because they are choosing not to moderate listings to prevent stolen intellectual property from being sold here.

I am also beyond frustrated with the silence from Epic on this issue. We need a bit more than “please see our post with links to official list of FAB issues…” how about a STANCE on whether this is allowed or not so we can decide if it’s worth waiting or move onto a different vendor for game development assets?

And it’s clear it’s not a SketchFab migration issue…FAB itself does not have acceptable product moderation (since they are actively approving more new stolen IP).

We all want to be able to use the marketplace. Why stop your own platform from being able to make sales…?

Bump & Update - 2 weeks later, most items still up & new ones still being posted.

I wanted to add that there is also no feature to allow users to report IP theft. In fact there is an option to do so that explicity doesn’t allow you to despite there being a button for it:

It is the only type of content report that specifically doesn’t allow users to submit anything.

The copyright removal request unfortunately is for copyright holders only:

Meaning that if you observe something stolen from another game and listed for sale, you as a FAB customer have absolutely no recourse to notify Epic that infringing material is up for sale. There is no mechanism whatsoever to prevent this kind of stuff. Only the owner of that IP can make any sort of removal request, meaning that if Bethesda games themselves don’t ask for a takedown then stolen assets from their games will continue to remain on FAB.

Sounds like a joke

Then the solution should be simple: Ask the copyright holders to fill out that form.

But seriously, stuff like this either needs to be shoved within it’s own category or something if Epic isn’t being proactive about these things. Or we can just keep spreading the word on not to buy these products and blacklist these creators until the unmentionable happens

I wonder what happens if we upload Fortnite ripped models?

Given that the review team doesn’t seem to recognize anything from well-known IPs, I assume they won’t recognize their own either >_>

I’m half-convinced that it’s automated.

I’m not sure what they recognise!
I just had an email from Fab informing me that my listing contains references to Intellectual Property and they can’t accept it in its current form.

At the moment I make up the titles my of bags in a slap dash kinda way, it’s just how I’m naming them at the moment…anyhow…
I called the listing…

Designer bag heart style.

I have no idea what one of the four words or maybe the entire sentence had references to Intellectual Property.
It can only be that title because my description is almost the same in every model I have listed. I change what bump level to use and change that it is a handbag, shoulder bag, tote bag or other. Every other word is the same.

Really puzzled about it.

I’m now worried about the one I called - Designer bag suspender style - :smirk:

Oh my god, did they fire the review team and are using an AI for this :'D I hope they are not that braindead. Although I feel like even ChatGPT would be able to discern many of these as being ripped. E.g., An asset with “Skyrim Rip” in the title…hmmm…

P.S. It has now been > 2 weeks without a reply to this thread or official stance post on anything about ripped/IP-infringing content.

Add it to the list: literally selling one of the main storyline character models from Skyrim. They still approving straight-up asset rips.

Oh wow, someone is selling a Plumbus on Fab.

Meanwhile one of my last assets were rejected by “copyright infringement” becouse i used the default unreal engine vehicle and accused of stealing it from the Rocket League (by one of the reviewers).

Here’s the thread:

I have actually mentioned the issue with your product submission in a topic a couple of months ago. I compared it to how a literal 3D blob made by a beginner was approved, but your product was rejected based on “copyright infringement” claims when the same vehicle is used and is included in other Marketplace assets that I’ve purchased! Today things are much worse; not only beginner work is being approved, but copyrighted 3D models?
Alright, had Fab’s issues been only UI/UX related things would have been just fine, such things happen all the time when launching new services… but to have UI/UX issues, no reviews, no questions, database issues, search engine issues, user library not syncing issues, issues making payments, issues accessing products after making payments, issues moderating copyrighted content that literally most people in the world can recognize, bad communication regarding the very first sale event, not being clear about the fact that Megascans URLs will be dead after Fab goes live and… etc

Well this is not normal. And unless radical changes were made in a matter of one to two weeks, I don’t think it will be possible to recover or regain customer trust. I genuinely miss the UE Marketplace.

Funfact- Talks about Fab was started around 2022, and Alpha was released for UEFN. (Which makes it even more insane Blunder, They didn’t Invited all Sellers First for Alpha and Beta otherwise we would have shaped it in right direction)

Yeah i remember that post you made.

You’re right, there’s no way to trust Fab in this state.

I was hyped by the idea of a new store etc… But now i’m questioning if this is the end of it as you and also other sellers have mentioned no sales.

I was used to have little sales here and little sales there as i don’t consider my products nothing out of this world but as mentioned i used to sell.

Now, it’s horrible.

I wish someone who have the skills could make a proper marketplace dedicated for unreal engine stuff becouse this one is not going anywhere near soon… If it ever does.

I wouldn’t mind to support it but would he consider to make it a store?

Maybe not Competitor Store, But as Layer on Top of Fab with all Missing Features.
Such that it will have all the Features that community was screaming from past 5 years
