Experimental Update to the Homebar

I think this could be a very exciting and worthwhile way for FNC devs to feel rewarded for their hard work in the space. And would give devs more of a reason to submit to Epic’s Picks.

Moving forward will all EP maps have a spot in homebar during their week in the row? Or does each map have to hit a certain threshold in order to be placed there? Because going off of the previous map that was added from EP to homebar, it did not see large ccu until AFTER it was featured in homebar. Any time I saw the row in passing the ccu it was pulling was much smaller than other experiences in the row. But the ones with higher ccu never were filtered into the homebar. If there are other metrics in play for how/why a map would be able to be featured in homebar I think we would need to know more specifics to be able to say if it’s fair for all in EP.

Epic’s Picks row should be moved upwards in the rows of placement as well. Being 10 rows down in discover is quite unacceptable for something that is supposed to showcase the best islands handpicked by Epic staff. These more innovative experiences are being drown out by hundreds of copy paste combat maps. These combat modes may be what player base prefers in the moment, but I think this truly is because its HARD to find anything else with the current setup. These are all funneled to the top of discover and when players are looking for a quick experience to jump into, they will find it difficult to come across anything other than combat in the top 4 to 6 rows. Only perpetuating the problem of not bringing innovation to the space. It’s fueling the clickbait money grabs and racist content to be pumped out at much higher numbers.

Because all Fortnite players want updated nothingness, when we report bugs that don’t get fixed…

It’s funny how you say “to introduce more players to the very best content you’re creating” when V28.10 absolutely destroyed the entirety of UEFN/Creative and the bug reports section is absolutely HEAVING with some serious game breaking issues, but yup carry on promoting another useless cosmetic update. Wonderful, great help.

If Epic thinks Red VS Blue, 1v1, box fights, zone wars and other copy/paste and or low effort garbage is “the very best content you’re creating” than God helps us. This platform will die out with content like this on the front page.

It’s not the best, not even close. I’ve seen enough modes / maps with love in them, all look like the creator spend a considerable amount of time making it. Instead of this Red v Blue low effort garbage. Ironically, I find those creative maps on Reddit or Tiktok, not inside Fortnite, impossible to find almost anything of worth there.

Epic needs to demonetize low effort garbage and make monetization a new apply-only process. It’s fun to publish a map for friends how low effort it may be. Just don’t incentivize laziness. Don’t show it on the front page, regardless of players hide it somewhere, make a “junk” folder for all I care. Show creations with love, uniqueness etc. You know, creativity.

Like I’m making team based maps based on 90’s shooters. The maps look good and are original. I put time and effort into it. Yet nobody even sees it. It is vastly overshadowed by the seas of garbage that is on the Fortnite front page. Not that my maps are the best, but they have tens of thousands of players in other games, so I’d hope they are somewhat decent at least. The playerbase of said games sadly don’t overlap as Fortnite is really popular with kids but nobody else. I’d like to think that will change, besides kids might enjoy my maps or others for what they are, who knows, nobody cause it’s not even shown to them.

Also other good maps are just burried and not seen.

While I don’t see anything with combat maps inherently wrong, I do see a problem with the amount of effort put in 99% of those maps on the front page of Fortnite and thus agree.

Also. There are beautiful non combat experiences to be made and had but they are drowned out by the vast ocean of garbage that is the Fortnite front page. Thus creating an environment where not many will attempt to make them etc.

This highlights why monetization needs to stop and needs an overhaul. Low effort = no pay, no matter the player numbers. Like Youtube shorts, Tiktok etc, low effort content, no pay. Because numbers pay, and the effort is low, making garbage content now is low investment, low risk, high reward. That creates a vicious loop of people making low effort garbage because actual creativity isn’t being rewarded, by being discovered so no pay etc.

I don’t think it will change sadly because there’s just something wrong with Epic’s vision on these things. Their Epic Games Store on PC suffers from most of the same issues; very badly designed webshop-app where you cannot effectively find new games, or even manage your own games, like hiding them. What you do find on the Epic Games Store (when you first open it) is low effort garbage tier games that literally cost 50cents. Now I know it’s not the only thing on the store but it’s what is shown. You literally have to use Google to find anything on their Epic Games Store.

Because of this nobody really uses it and is effectively just a marketing black-hole that you are best to stay clear of. But it also shows something is EXTREMELY wrong at Epic leadership. They have a vision without a clear plan and to me that’s just a hallucination.

bro seriously

The ultimate island to get into all tabs is: CRAZY RED VS BLUE ZONE WARS 1v1 BOX 16 PLAYER EPIC WEAPON GTA OF DUTY

I feel Epic Picks already had a prime spot and can sometimes feel out of touch with the community and lack being engaging maps. I don’t think these need more exposure. Just my opinion.

I think any map should be able to get to homebar if reaching the metrics, so I say epic picks and all others with an equal shot not just that row.

While I’m here I would also love if hidden gems was actually hidden gems. That would be amazing. Showcase high engagement/retention maps that have a low player base.

May I understand how a ccu of 20 minutes on a boxfights map that was getting 3.5k players with ZERO ip bannable issue and no copy-written issues drops suddenly to 100 players. The average play time was only going up. I just don’t understand why I would spend over 2 weeks working for 10 hours a day just to produce a stunning map just to get my map thrown away like that after it was performing insanely good. If you don’t believe me checkout “sauce box pvp” that’s proof enough the system is not working as intended. All I had was positive feedback from the community and everyone that played it. Hope you guys would at least consider what went wrong there. Thank you. [quote=“Amanda Schade, post:1, topic:1656269, full:true, username:Amanda.Schade”]
You may have noticed islands appearing on the Homebar. Here’s why:

We’re experimenting with displaying islands from Epic’s Picks in the Homebar. Our goal with this test is to introduce more players to the very best content you’re creating and to feature more unique games in the Homebar.

Islands are algorithmically placed when they meet a combination of criteria (CCU, session length thresholds, and more).

The test has been running for two weeks and on Monday the first island was triggered for placement.

We’ll evaluate the success of the test by monitoring player engagement but we’re also curious what you think—so let us know!
