Environment Art first portfolio piece (WIP)

Hey there, I’m coming from the IT field for the last 4 years and attempting to become an environment artist in the game industry. I decided to leave the IT field with that goal in mind. This is my current environment that will be my first portfolio piece with the intention of learning as much as I can. I originally started this project in UE4 4.2.7 then moved over to UE5 when it was fully released. I am currently not using nanite or lumen.

Please let me know what you think so far, thank you! My Artstation can be found at ArtStation - Ron S

Hey there @So_Sselkcer,

Hope you’re doing well!

First, huge kudos for taking that leap and believing in yourself. It’s the sort of choice you’ll remember forever.

Secondly, I can see why you took the jump. Your work is beautiful, charming, and honestly breathtaking. (Gotta hype you up a bit!) It’s obvious you’re going down the right path. The world needs more game environments like this

I truly hope to see more of your designs here on the forums and maybe in some future game I play! Good luck on your new journey, though I don’t think you’ll need it

Hello PresumptivePanda,

Thank you so much for the extremely kind, encouraging, and heartfelt comment.

I’m glad that you enjoy the work that much to hype me up about! I will continue to post updates as I come closer to finishing/finished!

There are a few more aspects of this project I would like to touch, on as I’ve increased the scope of this project. Originally it was focused on doing the house as the main focus but I wanted to bring the environment to life and add some storytelling. So this is how the environment was formed.

I’m currently working on:

  • Bench/sitting area
  • Dynamic tree swing swinging in the breeze
  • Laundry poles with clothes swinging in the breeze
  • Fish in the pond swimming around (fish modeled, textured & rigged)
  • Cat ‘pawing’ at the fish in the pond (cat modeled, textured & rigged)
  • Texture the tree bark
  • Remodel the house roof tiles
  • Remodel the chimney mesh

So many details that I tend to take for granted in games and you’ve thought of it all.

PS: That cat(?) on the rock is the single most precious creation I’ve seen in so long and they need a name asap.

I’ve been hard at work on this environment learning new techniques and doing my best to improve the quality of textures, lighting, and atmosphere. So giving you a sneak peek of my current scene with the main beauty shot. I will be publishing this piece on Artstation early next week.
